UNA denies premature campaigning rap

UNA secretary general Tobias Tiangco

The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) on Wednesday said its candidates did not violate any election law in releasing television commercials and making the rounds of provinces to inform the people of their public engagements.

“No one could tell us or accuse us that we are violating any election law,” said UNA secretary general Tobias Tiangco. He said by phone that even Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. had said that “there is no such thing as premature campaigning.”

“We’re just informing the public. That’s why we go around so that we make people aware, touch base with old friends,” he said.

‘Not sorties, just visits’

UNA, a coalition between political parties of deposed President Joseph Estrada and Vice President Jejomar Binay, is already running TV advertisements featuring its senatorial candidates ahead of Feb. 12, the official start of the campaign period.

Candidates have also been traveling to provinces to meet with local officials, including trips to Batangas last week and to provinces in Cagayan Valley this week. Tiangco had said these trips were “not yet sorties, just visits.”

Sen. Edgardo Angara on Tuesday questioned UNA’s early campaigning when asked by reporters, but quickly took it back and said the television ad did not explicitly ask for people’s votes and just introduced the UNA candidates.

Angara’s son, Aurora Rep. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, is running for senator under the ruling Liberal Party.  The younger Angara also has a TV ad already running well before the official campaign period.

“If we could be liable for premature campaigning, Sonny Angara could be more liable because his TV ads were out earlier,” Tiangco said. Tarra Quismundo

They are so used in “breaking the Law”…, that they do not know the parameters of the Law.

    AMF… nanulak nanaman ng bintang.

  • farmerpo

UNA UNA LANG YAN.  Spirit of the law is broken, not the letter of the law so there is nothing illegal. Who cares if it is immoral? Iboboto pa rin yan. Pinas, wawa ka naman.

As I continuously mentioning in my posts on several issues reported by PDI, UNA is self-destructing, as a result, it is slowly imaging itself as the party of the co/rru/pt, the gr/e/e/dy and most likely will even surpass the noto/riety of GMA just few years ago. Just browse the names of its candidates and you will throw-up in dis/gust.

When Enrile, the top leader of UNA was exposed to have imm/orally  used the people’s money in buying the loyalty of his fellow cr/o/oks in the form of a Christmas gift to remain as SP, a potent  tool in misshaping the results of the election, it was also an exposure that UNA is willing to bri/be its way just to win in election.

This early, UNA is spending oodles, perhaps a part of it is from the “Christmas gifts” of enrile, prior to start of campaign in violation of election codes. And as expected, UNA will twist and bend again the rules to suit their needs. This trick by UNA is not surprising for it is known to do the opposite of what is right.

When the 3 top dogs of UNA encouraged Gwen Garcia to ignore a lawful order to vacate her position due to corruption hurled against her, the 3 dogs showed that together, they will surpass the monstrosity of GMA’s impunity. Whew, that is really scary.

Villar used that UNA strategy in the past. Initially, he was there at the top of the survey. But when the people realized that the money spent for those ads will be reverted back to Villar a thousand folds in so many ways using the position he was aspiring for, everything crumbled and villar was seen reeling in one corner in shame, saying goodbye to his billions.

People are now awake. They know now what a cr/o/ok is. It will be seen in the coming days, aided by the self-destructive mode of UNA.

Godamn hypocrites and liars these UNA candidates and their spokesman.  So what is that long TV ad supposed to accomplish, Mr. Tiangco?

  • Atawid

They live to their name – UNAhan.

  • Rogelio Y. Dela Cruz

So para saan ang mga tv ads ng UNA? ”To inform the public”? Mr Tobias we don’t need that kind of information, so much the better kung yung mga katiwalian ng mga UNA candidates ang ”information” na ibibigay mo sa public, just to refresh our memory.

Do Not Vote For These UNA Candidates, All Corrupt Traditional Politicians From A Political Dynasty.
    We Deserve Better Public Officials.

  • Renato Apuad

With due respect to Comm. Sixto Brillantes, if you don’t see these ads as premature campaigning you may need to revise your laws or leave your post.

that is a part of their strategy kung paano sila mananalo,,lahat naman pwede akusahan ng early campaining either opposition ka or admin candidates,,nasa mga botante pa rin ang magdedecide kung karapat dapat silang iboto.

  • ever green

  • Anton Dans

Kahit malusutan nila ang Comelec, hindi ibig sabihin na hahayaan na lang natin sila. Ito ang mga pangalan nila. Wag sana natin hayaan na pinagmumukha nila tayong tanga. Wag iboto ang mga ito. Nancy
Binay, Tingting Conjuangco, JV Ejercito, Jack Enrile, Chiz
Escudero,Dick Gordon, Gringo Honasan, Ernesto Maceda, Mitos Magsaysay,
Mary Grace Poe Llamanzares, and Juan Miguel Zubiri.Disappointed ako especially kay Dick Gordon. I wanted to vote for him.

  • Aris Kalayaan

Technically, there is no such thing as premature campaigning unless the decision of the Corona SC with regard to this matter is reversed.  It is now up to the voters whether to elect or not those candidates abusing this corrupted law to their favor.

Sinungaling ang UNA. Siyanga pala, do you know na nakapaint na iyong mga campaign billboard ni “So old, yet so corrupt” Ernesto Maceda sa mga Victory Liner Bus? Legal? Of course not- and he must not get away with it- but I think that he will get away with it- kasi bata ng UNA si selective, self-serving Sixto Brilliantes.

  • Andres_Bagumbayan
