Fr. Anscar to be laid to rest Thursday

Fr. Anscar J. Chupungco, OSB, the acknowledged dean of Filipino liturgists, will be laid to rest Thursday at the La Loma Catholic Cemetery following the funeral Mass at 8 a.m. at the Abbey of Our Lady of Montserrat in Mendiola, Manila.

Fr. Chupungco died on Jan. 9 at the Paul VI Institute of Liturgy in Malaybalay, Bukidnon. He was 73.

Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales, archbishop emeritus of Manila will be the presider and homilist. Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates B. Villegas will deliver a message on the awarding of the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Medal to Fr. Chupungco during the Mass.

    Fr. Anscar, thank you for the gift of your person tothe Filipino people and to the Catholic Community throughout the world. I thank God for allowing me to meet you in person and celebrate Holy mass with you and learn many things in your sermons. Your dog will miss you so much! Rest in God’s hand now Fr. Anscar

    Fr Anscar was a good, gentle man.  His gift of intellect, wit and humility are truly outstanding.  He  had genuine care for the other.  He made liturgy truly meaningful. We thank Fr Anscar for making our limited space and time here on earth reflect the sacred. Thank you, Fr Anscar for being a true friend.
