Chan is pba player of the week

AFTER STRUGGLING to find the form that made him one of the most-feared scorers in the league, Jeff Chan found the perfect time to flaunt it once again as he scored 27 points in a 90-83 Game 6 win over the San Mig Coffee last week to lead the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters to their very first appearance in the PBA Philippine Cup Finals.

For that performance, the lefty gunner was deemed as the last PBA Player of the Week award winner for this conference, for the period of Dec. 31 to Jan. 6.

While several other Elasto Painters were also deserving of praise such as Paul Lee, Jervy Cruz, Gabe Norwood and Beau Belga, it was Chan’s torrid shooting that downed the resilient San Mig Coffee squad in the best-of-seven semifinals series, 4-2.

The 27-point performance more than made up for Chan’s paltry three-point outing in the previous game, a 67-79 loss.

In Game Six, Chan bucked a slow start by scoring nine points in each of the last three quarters, each time stoking Rain or Shine’s drive to its second straight finals stint.

His semis averages of 13.8 ppg, 4.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists helped prop Chan’s conference numbers to 15.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.6 feeds./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
