Old man shot dead

AN 80-YEAR-OLD man was shot dead by motorcycle-riding assailants in barangay Balud, San Fernando town, southern Cebu.

Jacinto Lantape Sarucam was shot in the back of the neck. Neighbors brought him to the Carcar City Hospital where he was declared dead by attending physician.

The attack happened while the old man was on his way to open his water refilling station along the national highway near his house past 3 a.m. last Saturday, police said.

When Sarucam opened the house gate, a motorcycle with two men on board arrived.

The backrider shot at the victim once before they fled, said Senior Insp. Gerard Ace Pelare, chief of the San Fernando police.

An empty shell of a 9mm pistol was recovered at the scene. Police are still investigating the attack./Correspondent Joy Cherry S. Quito
