Greenhills, Panagdait win Game 1 in J Centre hoop finals

GREENHILLS Subdivision and Panagdait took 1-0 leads in their respective best-of-three championship series on Friday against separate rivals in the teens 19-under and adult-open categories of HoopStars’ Lord of the Rings – Battle of the Villages at J Centre Mall.
Greenhills dumped the coach-less St. Paul College (SPC), 84-53, in the 19-under teens category of the tournament presented by Jonie’s Flavored Chicken.
JC Aloro led Greenhills with 20 points while Mark Kong and John Albert Montesclaros added 18 and 15 points, respectively.
In the main adult-open game, Panagdait rallied from a 10-point deficit in beating Summerville, 79-75.
After trailing for most of the game, Panagdait finally tied the score at 72-all inside the last two-minute mark of the series backed by Dunkin’ Donuts. Panagdait then outscored Summerville, 7-3 the rest of the way for the four-point victory.
Team captain Jan Ponz Geraga lead Panagdait with 25 points while spitfire Jerome Balansag added 16.
The HoopStars finalists played Game 2 last night in the Dragon Fireworks championship games at the J Centre roofdeck basketball court.
