MANILA, Philippines – Senator Serge Osmeña III on Tuesday said he was suffering from acute pancreatitis that was why he was not able to vote on the controversial Reproductive Health (RH) bill.

Osmeña and Senator Lito Lapid were the only senators absent when the Senate passed the bill Monday night with a vote of 13-8 with no abstention.

“I was affected by acute pancreatitis on Saturday night and had to check into Makati Med[ical Center] on Sunday night because my reading was ten times normal level,” said a text message from  Osmeña’s office.

“No food, only intravenous feed and anti-biotics until levels recede,” the text added.

The senator said he hopes to be discharged this Tuesday noon if his blood test I the morning would come out better than the last two days.
