Super Idols, Pañeros set up title duel in IBP hoop

DEFENDING champion Super Idols trounced Bhutakalz, 63-55, last Saturday to advance to the finals of the 9th Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) basketball tournament at the Capitol Parish gym.

The Super Idols will battle Pañeros Dynasty in the finals after the latter stunned Pecandela Law Firm-PrimaryHomes, 53-49. The winner-take-all finale is slated this Friday.

Super Idols jumped to a 25-16 advantage in the opening period and never relinquished the lead until the final buzzer.

Fermin Pepito led Super Idols with 16 points while Van Ligutan and Boyet Velez paced Bhutakalz with 13 points apiece.

In the other semis match, Pañeros Dynasty’s small pointguard Michael Molde canned a booming triple in the final 33 seconds to tie the count at 48-all. Then Roldan Mendoza gave Paneros a two-point advantage with an undergoal stab with 13 seconds left before Ruel Juban and Barry Busi canned crucial freethrows for the four-point victory.

Juban led the Pañeros with 23 points while Tommy Yu and Mark Russ Gamallo paced Pecandela-PrimaryHomes with 12 and 10, respectively.
