/ 06:57 AM November 22, 2012

WBC Silver minimumweight champion Denver “The Excitement” Cuello and his manager and promoter Aljoe Jaro will leave for China today to witness the fight between Javier “Demonio” Martinez Resendiz of Mexico and Xiong Zhao Zhong of China for the vacant WBC world minimumweight title on Nov. 24 at the Kunming City Stadium.

The World Boxing Council (WBC) has mandated that the winner of the Zhong-Martinez Resendiz bout will defend the world crown against Cuello within 90 days.

Cuello, who hails from Iloilo, is the number one ranked contender in the 105 lb division. Jaro informed through e-mail that they will start negotiations after the bout as to where Cuello will challenge for the title. If they cannot reach any agreement, Jaro said that they will settle matters during the WBC convention in Cancun, Mexico on Dec. 2 to 8.

The 25-year-old Cuello (32W-4L-6D, 21 KOs) earned the mandatory challenger status last May 19, 2012 when he stopped Mexican Ganigan Lopez in two rounds in Guanajuato, Mexico. In his last fight held in September, he beat Ivan Meneses by unanimous decision in a fight also held in Mexico. /Correspondent Rene Bonsubre Jr.
