Going to Lapu-Lapu fiesta? Expect more traffic, ferry boats

Traffic to Lapu-Lapu city will be very heavy today as people head for Mactan  on the eve of the fiesta of the Birhen sa Regla Fiesta or Virgin of the Rule, the city’s patroness.

GY Dela Cerna Street and other streets leading to the Birhen sa Regla Church will be closed to traffic today and Wednesday (See map).

All  vehicles going to Cordova town are advised to pass by the Hoops Dome and Carajay Road.

Roadside parking is strictly prohibited. Trucks weighing more than 4.5 tons cannot enter the city,  except those used by catering services, said the traffic advisory released by the Lapu-Lapu City government.

Traffic chief Frank Brazil advised visitors from Cebu City to  use the Mactan Channel ferry service rather than going  by car to help ease traffic congestion.

The Metro Ferry that  docks in Pier 3 in Cebu City  has fielded more ferry boats to bring   devotees and fiesta goers to Mactan.

More traffic enforcers with tow trucks ready to clear the road of any obstruction will be stationed on the  Mandaue-Mactan Bridges.

“Don’t tempt  bad elements by bringing valuables. Avoid drinking too much which could lead to trouble,” he said.
