Bayan Muna Representative Teddy Casiño discusses why the Freedom of the Information bill was never a priority of the Aquino administration. Video by Cathy Miranda/INQUIRER.net

MANILA, Philippines—Bayan Muna Representative Teddy Casiño explained in an interview on “Banner Story” why President Benigno Aquino changed his stance on the Freedom of Information bill starting from day one of his administration.

The FOI bill, he said, was one of the campaign promises of Aquino but he never mentioned it in his first  and second State of the Nation Addresses.

“Banner Story” is the newest daily early morning show of Radyo Inquirer 990 AM. It is hosted by veteran journalists Arlyn dela Cruz and Jake Maderazo.

wag naman. sabi nga ng kasabihan pumatol sa tanga, mas tanga din (just for the sake of argument). saka it seems marami na ngayon ang nagsasalita ng against sa kapwa na nagrereflect sa kanila ang sinasabi nila. mag self-reflect ka muna at baka sakaling maraming blessing na dumating sa iyo.

Hasn’t the Philippines learned by now that Aquino makes promises and never keeps them?

Noynoy’s repudiation of transparency and the FOI bill should come as no surprise. Truth be told, he never really stood for transparency or the FOI bill. He did pay lip service to it whenever it suited his purpose. But when Noynoy and Tito Peping, who are both holding government positions, refused to sign the waiver in the wake of Corona’s ouster, we should have known better. When Noynoy refused to investigate Puno for destroying evidence in Robredo’s office, we should have known better. When Noynoy tried to conceal his secret China talks, we should have known better. When Noynoy refused to investigate Neil Tupas Jr. for building a P42 million house in Xavierville which he could hardly afford, we should have known better. When Noynoy used the full force of AMLC secretly against his perceived enemies as early as 2010, we should have known better. When Noynoy tried so hard to cover-up the deliberate falsification of evidence in National Land Registration Authority by Eulalio Diaz III, we should have known better. When Noynoy refused to fully disclose his campaign donation bonanza in 2010, we should have known better. To this day, Noynoy and his clan have yet to make a clear accounting of the windfall they received from the 2010 election. Some say Noynoy has it all neatly tucked away in Singapore for his retirement. Some say he still hasn’t moved them from Hong Kong to Singapore which explains why China has something on him. But all this should come as no surprise. When Noynoy decided to kiss and make up with Tito Danding and forget about his father’s killers, Noynoy unequivocally abandoned the search for truth and transparency. While Noynoy and Ninoy may not have been the closest father and son, Noynoy’s readiness to turn his back on his late father does not speak well of him. If Noynoy can betray his parents, he certainly has no qualms about betraying the other 95 million Filipinos. By now, Noynoy’s repudiation of transparency and the FOI bill should come as no surprise. Strictly speaking, Noynoy did not renege on his campaign promise for FOI bill because he never really meant it. And for all we know, Noynoy may even be the brains behind the killing of the FOI bill.

There is so much truth to the above info. The FOI issue could be the down fall of Noynoy. He may not have the guts to step over his friends and relatives. He could have known also the behind the scene leaders of the society.

  • ruben_bush

How communist is elected a post in a democratic government is beyond understanding.

  • OneSearch

Just recently, it was fervently argued and brought to high heavens about the need to have an independent legislative body, far from the executive influence. We need the FOI bill pass into law. Sino ba ang dapat magpasimuno nito? Kongreso!

  • Juan Rivera

I didn’t bother to watch this video. I don’t trust this communist guy trying to get elected in a system he does not subscribe to or even overthrow if he has the chance to do so.
