Palace says Aquino’s job taking toll on his health

Philippine President Benigno Aquino III. AP

MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III’s job is demanding and maybe taking its toll on his health, Malacañang said Sunday.

The President skipped a meeting with visiting International Monetary Fund managing director Christine Lagarde Friday morning due to a bad flu and cold. He, however, flew to Cambodia Saturday night to attend the 21st Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit.

“Perhaps that’s part of it,’’ Undersecretary Abigail Valte said on whether the demands of his job were taking their toll on his health. “And of course, the President has allergies, and is hit hard by cold and flu.’’

Aquino is human after all, and the like the rest of the Filipino, gets sick too, Valte said.

“Many people are asking about the President. It’s nothing major, as I said [Saturday]. We get sick every now and then, and President Aquino is no different from us,’’ she said in an interview over government-run dzRB.

Valte had earlier said the 52-year-old President had flu and allergic rhinitis, an inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nose, which he might have caught when he flew to Occidental Mindoro and chilly Tagaytay City last Thursday.

Despite his condition, the President attended the Asean summit opening and subsequent plenary sessions, as well as sat down with heads of states for bilateral meetings on the sidelines in Phnom Penh Sunday, Valte said.

“We didn’t hear anything from Cambodia that the President’s condition is getting worse. So far, our assumption here is he’s feeling better,’’ she said.

But as in any foreign trips, Aquino is accompanied by a doctor from the Presidential Security Group.

On Day One of the summit Sunday, the President had a heavy schedule. After the opening ceremonies, he met with Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, and then attended the plenary session tackling Asean community-building, Valte said.

In the afternoon, he was scheduled to attend the signing ceremony of the Asean Human Rights Declaration, Asean Leaders’ Meeting with the Asean Business Advisory Council, and Asean Retreat Meeting. In the evening, he was set to meet Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, she said.

“The President is OK,’’ Valte said.

On Friday morning, the President failed to receive Lagarde in Malacañang. The IMF chief was instead diverted to the Coconut Palace where she was received by Vice President Jejomar Binay Jr. She later showed up at the New Executive Building in Malacañang to brief reporters on IMF’s outlook on Philippine economy.

The next day, the President managed to interview the nominees for Supreme Court associate justice, except for chief government negotiator Marvic Leonen who is now in Malaysia for the resumption of talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

While on a state visit to Australia late last month, the President cut short a dinner with Prime Minister Julia Gillard after becoming ill. The reason for the illness was not known.

Serves Noynoy right. Comeuppance strikes when you least expect it. Noynoy lost control of himself down under and soiled his pants after poking fun at persons with disability. Noynoy is now losing control of his dripping mucous after mocking the pyramid scam victims for being victims and adding insult to injury. Noynoy is also losing what little remains of his mental health after fabricating the Malampaya Gas scam against GMA, which is clearly a case plucked out of thin air. But somebody up there is always watching and keeping score. Justice in this world may not always prevail, but karma has a way of coming home to roost. There are no two ways about it. Not even that short plump lady with fat limbs who speaks on behalf of the palace can alter the fate that befalls ugly bald liars who make ugly bald-faced lies. At 52, it is not too late for Noynoy to take this lesson to heart before karma or cancer consumes him.

In short – kina-karma na ang Ogag.

        Tama.

Times we can get too harsh on people that we forget that humans are not invincible.

The President leads our country and he needs our support.

Maybe, but first, he has to STOP SMOKING. He is setting BAD EXAMPLE to our youths.

  • Your_King

Its hard to believe that Aquino’s health issue is being blamed on his job. Someone or something always has to be blamed. What has Aquino been doing that would take a toll on his health? If he’s sick coz he got sick then it happens, no big deal. But to say that his sickness is due to his work is stretching it a bit far. They are trying to make something out of nothing here.

    • Mamang Pulis

      • Your_King

No one ever claimed that Aquino was the smartest President the Philippines has seen. There’s a reason for that.

    • disqusted0fu

As a concerned boss, i suggest that he resigns immediately and make some time for healing.

      • Your_King

He won’t resign. The job is too good. To think, he hasn’t accomplished anything significant in 3 years and remains popular. He can attack anyone he wants at anytime plus he can oversee his families’ land at Luisita worth billions…awesome job indeed.

PNoy’s fragile health is not due to his demanding job as president but most likely due to his chimney-like smoking habit that’s taking its toll on his lungs.

I’m afraid he won’t finish his term if he continues his hazardous habit…

    • Guest

Is two packs a day really that hard to quit?

    • boymanok

This is another Malacanang SPIN to DIVERT the real cause of the President’s illness: THAT OF HIS BAD CHAIN-SMOKING HABIT….

Carandang and his Malacanang Comm Group must be having a hard time glamorizing and spinning real issues.

    • Guest

Well, for cracking distasteful jokes, Mr. Prez is fair game.

      Cigarette jokes anyone?

    • Malik62

Believe it or not Carandang does not smoke all his life.  But when he started working in Malacañang he started to smoke just be “IN”!

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_E3CE56OQVPC4RPYD2NR4VD3SUE Bert

Maybe Carandang doesn’t want to become victim of passive smoking and he believes on the saying, “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em”…..hehe

But yes, his spinning job is tough….

  • Mamang Pulis

Mang Simeon, quit smoking NOW. Don’t give satisfaction to your enemies, [especially your cabalen]….yan napapla mo sa wheelchair jokes mo!

LET’S PRAY FOR THE PRESIDENT FAST RECUPERATION.

  • Pitbulldog

Ganoon ba yon?  Taking toll on his health daw.  Meaning P-noy was overworked?

  • miguel29y

No amount of propaganda can mask the truth about Noynoy’s laziness.

      Magsama kayong dalawa..

    • Guest

In fairness to him, the president’s health is a matter of national security. Tama lang siguro they kept it from the public. I hope, knock on wood, if it ever comes to that, the transition will be smooth.

      • Francis81

    • kismaytami

      Tomo.

  • mekeni62

karma is taking its toll. Not long will there be a pronouncement from Malacanang just how sick he really is. The symptoms are there. Tennis elbow (joint pains),hair loss and fatigue are just some of them. Of course Malacanang will hide it for a while….only until it gets worse. Our dear president is not as healthy as we think he is.

    • Guest

I didn’t know it was that bad. Hope he gets well soon. At this point, I guess all we can do is pray for him.

      • Malik62

No amount of prayers will help BS Amalayer X3.  He does not believe in God. He is a Communist!

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_E3CE56OQVPC4RPYD2NR4VD3SUE Bert

Agree. But the healing could even be made faster if it begins from his own inner self. I think the president has too much anger, vindictive and he is living an unhealthy lifestyle.

    • disqusted0fu

im not really concerned with his physical health, they could just be exaggerating it. what i want to know is how healthy and fit he is mentally because something seems to be wrong.

      • mekeni62

that’s another side of the story….we all know it was all wrong from the start. he he.

    • Malik62

BS Amalayer X3 is terribly sick mentally and physically

“Pag magaling ang presidente mahina ang pangangatawan”  si GMA ba ang tinutukoy mo?

  • disqusted0fu

Miss Valte, we’ve known all along that he is human. there are no questions about that. if you make that much mistakes in life, you have got to be human. maybe even a below average human.

anyway, yes, i guess attacking your predecessor and a lot of your enemies, does take its toll on you. i assume this is the job that Valte was talking about because this is the most apparent.

Palace says Aquino’s “job taking toll on his health”

It is not job that taking its toll on Aquino.
He has so many cabinets to do the work, Pnoy is resting president.
Pnoy is already sick when he got the job because we don’trequire physical exam for election candidates.

It is his health that taking on him and not the job.

So many posters here are so disrespectful and uncouth…instead of sticking to logical commentaries, they resort to name-calling, baseless rumor-mongering….I don’t get why people can be so mean.

I wish the President good health and I also wish he realizes that smoking is not good for him (he can find other ways to de-stress) and muster enough will to stop…

    • jadejones2012

Why do you wish the president good health when he obviously doesn’t want it?

      The sooner, the better.

Para hindi na siya pamarisan ng kabataan.

  • jadejones2012

Why do you retarded NoyNoy fans wish him good health?

It’s obvious he doesn’t want it.

All that we can do now, is pray to God that he will die soon of smoking-related ailments like cancer.

This will inspire the Filipino youth to avoid smoking and take care of their health.

Then, NoyNoy will do more in death, what he can’t accomplish in life.

Why not resign, if he can’t perform 100% of his work due to his poor health..  the whole country will suffer with it and his sickness is not a good excuse ! Our counrty, due to it’s complex problems must have a strong, energetic leader who are ready 27/7…365 day/year to serve the needs of the people..not a sick and a lazy leader who always complains about his job that it’s making him sick… what a HYPOCHONDRIAC !!
