No pact with Baguio for dump of trash

/ 11:58 PM November 16, 2012

PANGASINAN—The city government of Urdaneta on Wednesday belied reports that it has allowed Baguio City to dump its garbage at its engineered sanitary landfill (ESL) in Barangay Catablan.

Marjorie dela Cruz, Urdaneta City ESL head, said the city government has no memorandum of agreement with Baguio for the use of the landfill for the mountain resort’s trash. On Tuesday, a Baguio newspaper reported that Mayor Mauricio Domogan had told an executive-legislative meeting that Urdaneta City had agreed to take Baguio’s trash. Urdaneta Mayor Amadeo Gregory Perez IV told the Inquirer that there is no ongoing negotiations between Baguio and his city.

In September 2011, Perez allowed 16 truckloads of unsegregated waste from Baguio to be dumped at the Urdaneta landfill “for humanitarian reasons.” Another 15 trucks of garbage from Baguio were later refused access to the Urdaneta landfill.  Gabriel Cardinoza, Inquirer Northern Luzon
