DepEd suspends classes in ‘Juaning’ affected areas

MANILA, Philippines – More regions declared suspension of classes due to tropical storm “Juaning”, the Department of Education said Tuesday.

In its advisory, the DepEd said that as of 10 a.m., all afternoon classes in the public and private pre-school, elementary and high school levels have been suspended.

In Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Abra, Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mt. Province, Benguet, Nueva Ecija, Aurora and Quezon province, including Polilio Island, classes in the pre-school level in all public amd private schools were suspended after Signal No. 1 was raised in these provinces by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Meanwhile, local authorities in Cavite also suspended classes in the pre-school, elementary and high school levels in all private and public schools in Bacoor, Imus, Noveleta, Rosaio, Kawit, Tanza, Gen. Trias.

Meanwhile, Region 4A Regional Director Lorna Dig-Dino suspended classes from pre-school, elementary and high school in Dasmariñas, Cavite and Batangas City, Batangas.

In San Pablo City, Laguna and Lipa City, Batangas, classes were suspended in the pre-school, elementary and high school in the public and private schools due to heavy rains.

In its weather bulletin, Pagasa said that Juaning was seen 90 kilometers north- northeast of Virac, Catanduanes or 150 km east-northeast of Daet, Camarines Norte.

Juaning now packs maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gusts of up to 80 kph.

The tropical storm is forecast to move west northwestward at 19 kph.

By Wednesday morning, Juaning will be in the vicinity of Dagupan City and by Thursday morning, it will be 260 km west northwest of Laoag City.
