22nd Cebu City Olympics kicks off today at CCSC

The stand-alone Abellana National School (ANS) team, the formidable Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) and the newly formed north and south district schools will determine the fate of Region VII in next year’s Palarong Pambansa. But first they will wage war against each other for athletic supremacy as the much awaited 22nd Cebu City Olympics opens today at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).

The multi-sporting meet which will showcase the talents of more than a thousand Cebu City basic education athletes, will formally open today. Football already started at the University of San Carlos Talamban Campus.

The official opening ceremonies will be headed by DepEd Cebu City Schools Division Superintendent Rhea Mar Angtud along with Cebu City Sports Commission chairman Edward Hayco who will present the official authentication of the Guiness World record certificate for Cebu for staging the biggest chess tournament in the world.

University of Cebu swimmer Michael Ichiro Kong will be lighting the urn while UC arnis coach Max Caballes will lead the Oath of Sportsmanship. The Oath of Amateurism will be led by Milo Little Olympics most outstanding player Dexter Opalla.

Meanwhile, the search for the fairest team muse is expected to add color and pageantry to today’s opening ceremonies.
