BCH Martians, Hoopers score wins in PICPA hoops tourney

THE Hoopers drubbed winless Zefiro, 65-49, last Sunday for its 2nd win in four games, while the BCH Martians crushed Warriors Intangibles, 70-56, to improve to 2-1 in the ongoing Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA)-2012 basketball tournament at the USP gym in Lahug.

The Martians led by single-digit in the first two periods but unloaded a, 14-5 bomb in the third to erect a commanding 15 points lead, 44-29, going to the final quarter.

Edlin Endrina had 27 points for the BCH Martians, which also drew solid contributions from Dondon Ibo and Ryan Alejandre with 18 and 17 points, respectively, while Carl Leyson and Jansen Sevilla paced the Warriors Intangibles (1-2) with 18 and 15 points.

In the main game, 3-point artist Lito Ortiz scored 15 of his 24 points in the first half as the Hoopers grabbed a, 29-18 advantage. Then in the 3rd, Khan Guieb led a blistering 19-6 Hoopers run to open up a 24-point lead, 48-24, heading to the final quarter.

Zefiro outscored the Hoopers, 25-17 in the fourth but failed to overhaul the latter’s massive lead.

Lito Ortiz fired a game-high 24 points for the Hoopers while Khan Guieb added 14 markers. Walter Ducay and Jayvee Hoylar paced Zafiro with 15 and 11, respectively.
