Cesafi beach volleyball tournament whips off today

THE UNIVERSITY of the Visayas and Southwestern University both aim for third straight titles in their respective classes when the beach volleyball tournament in the 12th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) kicks off today at the SWU sand court beside the Aznar Coliseum.

UV’s pair of thunderous-spiking and Nestea Beach Volley national champion Mike Abria and Elizar Salgarino will try to erase the stinging pain of losing in the finals of the indoor volleyball competition last weekend to the University of San Carlos.

The belles of SWU will also be trying to do the same as Danika Gendrauli and Rapril Aguilar look to bounce back after seeing their bid for a fourth straight crown in the indoor volleyball wars got derailed by the hungrier women’s squad of USC.

Competing in the men’s class will be the Cebu Institute of Technology-University, the University of Cebu, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation, the University of San Jose-Recoletos and the University of San Carlos. The women’s division will have the aforementioned schools save for CIT-U.

The competition will be a single round-robin with the top four teams advancing to the semifinal round. The winners in that stage will then advance to the finals which has been set for Monday. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
