Allyn & Sons nails 2nd straight win in Power 40 Christmas hoop

ALLYN & Sons scored a come-from-behind, 109-106 win over favored Park n’ Go Bakeshop Tuesday night to snare the early lead with its 2-0 record in the Power Forty Ball Club-2012 Christmas basketball tournament at the Emilio Jaca Memorial gym in barangay Inayawan, Cebu City.

Bulky forward Glen Rama sparked the Breadmakers’ strong first quarter by firing 12 of his 16 points in the stretch while the tandem of Gogo Fuentes and Al Mesa pushed them to an, 89-81 advantage heading to the final quarter.

However, Allyn & Sons went strong in the fourth and finally tied the count at 106-all on Melvin Caumeran’s split freethrow with eight seconds remaining.

In the return play, the Breadmakers committed a costly turnover allowing Allyn & Sons’ July Capala to score on a fast-driving lay-up with a foul that pegged the final count.

Dodong Piezas and July Capala led Allyn & Sons with 25 and 23 points, respectively, while Jingjing Rama paced Park n’ Go with 22 markers including six trifectas.

Earlier, Utassco Insurers crushed Water Market, 105-96.

It was a close match for the first three periods but the Insurers caught fire in the fourth with a, 33-20 rally for the nine-point victory. /Correspondent Dale Rosal
