MANILA, Philippine — Former Akbayan partylist representative Risa Hontiveros-Baraquel filed her certificate of candidacy at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Friday.

Hontiveros came to the Comelec with fellow candidates Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV and former senator Ramon Magsaysay Jr. She is running for senator under the Liberal Party (LP).

She told reporters that she was continuing her advocacy for women. “With me, women have a chance to become mainstream.”

She added that she was aware of the fact that she has no name in politics or a large amount of money, but it would not stop her from being one with the LP coalition’s reform agenda.

Because all the members of the coalition are pushing for the same advocacies “it will be a very strong common platform when we are working together in the Senate,” Hontiveros said.
