Suspect in killing of Japanese charged

Police have filed charges for robbery with homicide against a man tagged as the killer of a Japanese resident in barangay Agus, Lapu-Lapu City.

Police identified the suspect as Nerio Corvera, a native of Surigao province, believed to be 24 to 25 years old.

Police said there were people who saw Covera jump over the fence of the house of victim Takao Ukena shortly after the Japanese was found dead in his rented house at KB subdivision last July 12.

A househelper found Ukena dead on top of his bed with an electrical cord around his neck.

Police earlier said the Japanese was strangled.

The victim also had bruises in his nose, eyelids, forearm and cuts in the forehead, indicating a struggle with his assailant. The victim’s wallet was missing.

Police said they received information that after the incident, Corvera told his girlfriend that he would leave for Mindanao.

Corvera left Cebu last July 15. He lived in the house of his aunt in KB Subdivision. REPORTER JUCELL MARIE P. CUYOS
