Comelec opens filing of CoCs
MANILA, Philippines—A total of 18, 054 elective positions are up for grabs as the Commission on Elections (Comelec ) officially opened on Monday the filing of certificates of candidacy for national and local posts.
The filing will be open until Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said in an interview over Radyo Inquirer 990AM.
“Hangggang 5pm. Wala nang extension (Until 5pm. There is no extension),” Jimenez said. In the previous years, the final day’s schedule was always extended up to midnight.
In an earlier interview, Comelec chairman Sixto Brillantes said the new schedule is meant to remind the candidates to be punctual and to serve as an example to their constituents.
Only candidates who are running for the Senate will file at the main office of the Comelec in Intramuros, Manila while those vying for a congressional seat in the National Capital Region will be in the regional office located just near the tribunal’s office.
