MANILA, Philippines—Seasoned broadcast journalist Auguro Camu Jr., a.k.a. Jun “Bote” Bautista, 73, died past 9 a.m. Tuesday due to complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, according to radio reports.

Bautista covered the Senate for GMA News before he retired about a few years ago. He covered the police beat during Martial Law.

He was called “Bote,” because he was known to drink heavily, said INQUIRER Senate reporter Cathy Yamsuan.  “Bote” is Filipino word for bottle.

After retirement, “Bote” was a well-loved fixture in the closed Remembrances, a piano bar in Malate where media men used to hang out.
