USJ-R tops elims round in Cesafi tertiary football

A win over the University of the Visayas (UV) yesterday allowed the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) to end the elimination round at the top of the bracket as the tertiary football battle of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) enters the semifinal round next weekend at the football field of the Cebu City Sports Center.

USJ-R scored a come-from-behind 2-1 win against UV to finish the eliminations with three wins and a draw equivalent to 10 points.

USJ-R and UV will be facing each other again to contest one of the finals ticket after UV placed fourth with one win, one draw and two losses.

Defending champions University of San Carlos (USC) ended the eliminations at second place with three wins and a loss after blanking University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), 2-0, yesterday.

It will face third placer University of Cebu (UC) in the semifinals.

UC has the same record with UV but the Webmasters took third place via goal difference.

USPF bowed out of the tournament with one draw and three loses.  /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
