Bloggers set social good summit

THE Cebu Bloggers Society Inc. (CBSi) will hold the 1st Social Good Summit Cebu tomorrow, Sept. 22, from 8 a.m. to noon, at the Marcelo Fernan Cebu Press Center in sitio Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City.

The summit is an international event spearheaded by the United Nations Foundation and Mashable, one of the largest and influential blogs globally.

Through the Mashable Meetup Organizing Group, the blogging organization in Cebu has been invited again to organize a local event in line with the international Social Good Summit to be held on Sept. 22 to Sept. 24.

The international event aims to gather leaders, thinkers and influencers to answer the challenge, “How can new technology and new media create solutions for the biggest problems facing my community?”

On Sept. 24, people all over the world are invited to connect through local meet-ups to answer the same question.

In Cebu, CBSi is holding the summit as the Cebu media celebrates the 18th Cebu Press Freedom Week. The summit, which has the local theme “Blogging and Social Media as Instruments for Social Change”, is open to bloggers, journalists, the business community and academe.

Topics include State of the Social Media Scene in Cebu by Ruben Licera Jr., president of Cebu Bloggers Society Inc.; Definition of Social Media Responsibility by Dr. Narciso Tapia, a medical blogger and finalist of the 1st Cebu Media Excellence Awards (CMEA); Inspiring change through Blogging and Social Media by Nancy Cudis, 1st CMEA Blogger of the Year and Top 9 finalist of Good Blog Awards 2012; Social Movement via Social Media by lawyer Aristotle “Totol” Batuhan, founder of Abante Barangay Movement; Impact of Social Media Influencers in Social Change by Max Limpag, co-founder of InnoPub; and Social Media Engagement Ethics and Legal Issues by lawyer Ethelbert Ouano, law professor at the University of San Jose Recoletos.

During the summit, Jaysee Pingkian, CBSi outreach committee chair, will introduce to the public the group’s outreach program dubbed “CBSi ActNow.”
