LEGAZPI CITY–A former Sorsogon fire chief was shot by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday evening at his residence in Sorsogon City, a police official said Wednesday.
Chief Insp. Renato B. Marcial, 42, former chief of the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) in Sorsogon, survived the attack but was injured in the abdomen when the gunmen barged into his house at Suarez Compound in Barangay (village) Bibincahan at around 7:30 p.m., said Supt. Renato Bataller, spokesperson of the Bicol police.
Marcial was rushed to the Sorsogon Provincial Hospital for treatment of bullet wounds and was declared out of danger.
Bataller, quoting a police report, said investigators were still determining motive of the attack and the identities of the gunmen.
He said Marcial, a native of Sorsogon City, is presently assigned at the BFP National Capital Region.
Bataller said Marcial was visiting his family when the attack happened.
