Roxas: Only ‘political will’ can stop ‘jueteng’

MANILA, Philippines — Incoming Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas on Wednesday said only “political will” could stamp out the illegal numbers game “jueteng” in the country.
“It’s difficult to eliminate,” Roxas said during his confirmation hearing of the Commission on Appointments’ committee on interior and local government.
“But when there’s political will, jueteng can be eliminated,” he said.
Roxas warned however that jueteng would continue to exist if there would be collusion between some unscrupulous local government officials and policemen.
