Official says businesses still patronize Philpost

IN THIS age of the Internet, smartphones, electronic mails or emails and text messages, businesses continue to use the snail mail or letters sent through the postal service or the Philippine Postal Corp (Philpost).

The trend created a shift in letters or mails with personal mails declining and business mails increasing, said Ben Quiros, Philippine Postal Corp. director during yesterday’s PIA forum.

“We have observed a decrease on personal mails for the past years. We know for a fact that everybody is one text message away. But then the shift is that the business mails increased. These include statements of account, bills from different service providers,” Quiros told Cebu Daily News.

Personal mails are those “affectionate or greeting mails” sent to friends and loved ones.

Philpost, however, has a website (www.philpost.gov.ph) where both senders and recipients can check online the status of their mails.

“We have introduced the electronic business mail system. For example, we have served BDO bank, Social Security System (SSS), and other agencies that are mailing in bulk,”Quiros said.

“Three to 5 days after sending, they can view the status of delivery. All they have to do is enter the tracking number in the specific country’s official post website,” he said. /Correspondent Jessa Marie Chrisna J. Agua
