Register your pets, Marikeños urged

The Marikina government will conduct another round of pet registration from August 10 to October 2 in the hopes of keeping the city free of rabies.

The registration will be conducted by personnel of the City Veterinary Office (CVO) in all barangays (villages) in Marikina City, except Barangay Tumana, which is classified as a community area where the rearing of pets is not allowed.

The project targets the registration of some 15,000 dogs and cats in the city that will receive free antirabies vaccination.

City veterinarian Dr. Manuel Carlos said the annual project aims to ensure a rabies-free Marikina and foster responsible pet ownership among residents.

Carlos advised animal owners to bring the following requirements during registration: A 3R full body photo of their pets, a 2×2 photo of the pet owner and P75 for the registration fee.

Pet owners who want to renew their registration should bring their old records and P75 for the registration fee.

For pets that have already been vaccinated against rabies by a private veterinarian, their owners should present a certificate of vaccination.

Carlos reminded the city’s residents that the rearing of all kinds of pets in community areas is prohibited as stipulated in City Ordinance 67, Series 2007.

“Since these community areas are highly populated areas, the rearing of any kind of animal in such places may pose health hazards to the residents,” Carlos explained.

Carlos said that aside from animal protection and regulation, the City Veterinary Office also facilitates pet adoptions. Those who are interested may call 4754719.
