USJ-R cops 3 titles in Cesafi badminton

THE University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) showed off their prowess in the sport of badminton as they finished off their two-day campaign in the recently concluded Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. badminton tournament with three titles in the tertiary competition.

USJ-R’s Charles Plaza defeated University of Cebu’s (UC) Aljun Penute, 18-21, 21-18, 21-19, to capture men’s singles A title while the tandem of Jeffrey Lepaopao and John Rey Densing silenced University of San Carlos’s (USC) John Paul Diamante and Pj Perez, 21-13, 24-26, 21-19, for the men’s doubles crown.

Mary Rose Montebon completed the impressive performance of the Jaguars by gunning down UC’s Julie Marie Malazarte in the final round in the women’s A singles.

The University of San Carlos got two titles in the women’s B and men’s B categories courtesy of Celia Marie Kimberly Li and Janjan Vequezo, respectively.

UC won only one title in the women’s doubles after the duo of Irish Mae Ares and Jessa Mae Lagat routed USJ-R’s Jamjam Collamat and Nessie Benitez.  /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
