Visayas, Mindanao to be wet due to ITCZ

MTSAT ENHANCED-IR Satellite Image 2am, 10 September 2012

Rain showers and thunderstorms are to be expected in the Visayas and Mindanao with an intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) in effect over the regions, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

In its 5 p.m. forecast, the weather bureau on Sunday said that Palawan, the Visayas and the northern section of Mindanao were expected today to have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms because of the ITCZ.

Pagasa forecaster Fernando Cada told the Philippine Daily Inquirer the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will have generally good weather except for possible rains later in the day. The areas are forecast to be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

Cada said the dominant weather system affecting the country is the ITCZ. The weather bureau has not detected any other weather system. Jeannette I. Andrade
