MANILA, Philippines – A heartbroken caretaker of a church in Sta. Cruz, Manila apparently took his own life Saturday midnight by shooting himself, police said Sunday.
Leo Sombilon, 27, stay-in janitor, was found dead by his cousin who is also a janitor at The Church in Manila at 1007 Ongpin St., according
to a police report.
Police found text messages sent to a certain Ivy on the victim’s cell phone, which read: “Don’t make me jealous.” and “I’m sorry I can’t bear it anymore.”
Antonio Sombilon, 23, said Leo left the church premises at 6:30 p.m. Saturday then came back drunk around 11 p.m. Leo entered through the
kitchen where Antonio was arranging vegetables in the refrigerator. Antonio said he asked his cousin if he had eaten and Leo nodded.
Leo went to their quarters and after a few minutes, Antonio said he heard a gunshot. When he saw Leo bloodied and sprawled on the floor, he called the police.
Police found a .38 cal. revolver with one live ammunition and one spent shell beside the victim who bore a lone gunshot wound at the left side of his chest.
