MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Jejomar Binay on Friday said that he would call on Malacanang to offer a reward for the arrest of the couple accused of maltreating their former housemaid.

In a statement, Binay noted that his office did not have an intelligence fund where the reward money could be sourced but the Palace could put up the reward money. Binay likened the situation to Malacanang’s recent move to offer a bounty for the arrest of Globe Asiatique property owner Delfin Lee.

“Naalala ko tuloy yong sa Globe Asiatique. We were contemplating na magbibigay kami ng reward. Di pumayag ang COA e. Probably we will make recommendations to the Office of the President,” Binay said.

The couple, Analiza and Reynold Marzan, faced serious illegal detention charges at the Quezon City regional trial court. Analiza was also charged with attempted homicide and serious physical injury for allegedly torturing Bonita Baran until she went blind.

Binay noted that according to Baran, the employers had hit her repeatedly with plates, vases and a broomstick, and that Analiza pressed a hot flat iron on her face, and as a result, she lost her eyesight.

Binay also urged authorities to fast-track the arrest of the couple, saying that they went into hiding after they were slapped with the charges and issued warrants of arrest.

“Sana po sa lalong madaling panahon ay makita na natin ang mga nang maltrato kay Bonita. Napapanahon na siguro na managot sila sa pang-aabusong ginawa nila, ” Binay said.
