MURDER SUSPECT NABBED

A MAN who is wanted for murder was arrested in barangay Lawaan 3, Talisay City, southern Cebu.

Maldwin Cabusas, 26, was the subject of an arrest warrant issued by Regional trial Court Judge Gilbert Moises of Branch 18.

Police said Cabusas was also tagged as a suspect in the shooting of PO3 Arnold Damasco last July 12.

Damasco survived the attack.

The policeman was driving a motorcycle with a female backrider when he was shot in the back by the backrider of another motorcycle.

Police said Damaso had been receiving death threats before the attack.

The shooting could be drug-related since the policeman has been involved in several anti-illegal drug operations./CORRESPONDENT GABRIEL C. BONJOC

MAN STABS COUSIN IN DRINKING BOUT

A 50-YEAR-OLD trisikad driver was stabbed and wounded by his cousin after they argued in a drinking session in barangay Babag 2, Lapu-Lapu City.

Mehenio Berdin was wounded in the back.

Sergio Berdin, 49, was arrested by police shortly after the incident last Wednesday afternoon.

While drinking with friends, the two men argued after Sergio accused Mehenio of being a cheat and a land grabber.

Irked by the accusation, Mehenio mauled Sergio.

Sergio ran home. He returned a few minutes later and attacked Mehenio with a knife.

Mehenio was rushed by relatives to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital.

Sergio was detained at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office pending the filing of charges against him, said police./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA

TEENAGER CHARGED WITH RAPE

A COMPLAINT for rape was filed against a young man accused of raping an 8-year-old girl in barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City.

Rhoden Banticel, 18, remains at large.

The alleged abuse happened last August 26, said Insp. Ramil Morpos, chief of Subangdaku police station.

Police said the girl had asked her parents’ permission to play in the house of her cousins.

She met the teenager along the road and he accompanied her to her destination.

While the little girl was playing with her relatives in a room, the suspect barged in and molested the girl in front of her playmates.

Police said a neighbor caught the suspect sexually abusing the girl.

The teenager disappeared after the incident.

The girl’s parents reported the abuse to the police after learning about it. /CORRESPONDENT JUCELL MARIE P. CUYOS
