All systems go for first Maternity Run 2012

By

In celebration of its 90th anniversary, the Cebu Puericulture Center and Maternity House Inc. will hold its first ever running event dubbed “Maternity Run 2012” at 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 29 in front of the Maternity Hospital.

The running event will serve as the culminating activity of the hospital’s week-long celebration.

The Maternity House was founded in 1922 by the Cebu Women’s Club and became independent on 1973.

“We want to stage this fun run because we would like to let the public know that we are already here for 90 years and we grew stronger and stronger over the years,” said Dr. Humility Igaña, chairperson of the maternity run during yesterday’s official launch at the Maternity Hospital.

Igaña was joined by race director Joel Juarez and the officers of Cebu Puericulture Center and Maternity House Inc.

Categories include 1-kilometer pregnant and menopause category, 3k open and 10k open and the born and delivered in Cebu Maternity Hospital category.

“We have this special category because we want those who have their children born and delivered in our hospital to join the run,” said Igaña.

To join the special category, participants must bring their birth certificates to prove that they have a record in the hospital.

Proceeds of the footrace will be given to the hospital’s charity patients.

The race will traverse Mango Avenue, Gorordo Avenue all the way to Salinas Drive Lahug and San Jose Dela Montaña Avenue.

The top three male and female winners in the 3k category will take home medals, the top five in the 10k will receive cash and medals as well as the top three in the special category.

Registration fee in all categories is P250 inclusive of the race singlet, bib and and refreshments. Registration booths are located at RUNNR Ayala and at the lobby of Cebu Maternity Hospital. Deadline of registration is Sept. 27.
