Aquino urged: ‘Show compassion for Corona’By Karen Boncocan
MANILA, Philippines—The minority bloc at the House of Representatives on Wednesday asked the Aquino administration to show “a little bit of compassion” for ousted Chief Justice Renato Corona.
Likening the impeached chief magistrate to a “zombie” when he urged the administration to show compassion for Corona who has “already lost everything… (and) is by all means professionally dead.”
“There is no need to add to his burden by filing case after case for forfeiture and tax evasion. Bagsak na, tama na ‘yon (He’s already down, that’s enough),” said Suarez.
The minority leader pointed out that no evidence of ill-gotten wealth surfaced during the impeachment trial and what was discovered was only the “case of omission in the SALN, which per se, is debatable.”
“We reiterate that there is no need to hit a man when he is already down on the ground,” Suarez said.
