Malabon Mayor Tito Oreta passes away; 73
MANILA, Philippines—Malabon Mayor Canuto Senen “Tito” Oreta died Monday morning, according to an official of the city.
Oreta was 73.
Bong Padua of the Malabon Public Information Office said Oreta died due to complications from lung cancer.
Oreta was serving his third term as mayor of Malabon when he first felt signs of the illness.
Last March, his nephew, Vice Mayor Antolin “Lenlen” Oreta III, took over as acting mayor when Oreta’s condition worsened.
Oreta was well known for bringing together feuding political parties in Malabon. He garnered unopposed wins as mayor in 2004, 2007 and in 2010.
Article continues after this advertisementOreta’s body will be brought on Monday to his residence in Maysilo, Malabon, where it will stay until Friday, according to Padua.
On Friday, the remains will stay overnight at Malabon City Hall. Cremation and burial are scheduled on Saturday.
