Roxas is new secretary of DILG

Rep. Abaya takes over DOTC portfolio

Transportation Secretary Manuel Roxas INQUIRER FILE PHOTO

Jesse Robredo as the secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is a very tough act to follow.

But Transportation Secretary Manuel Roxas has accepted the challenge. He is the next DILG secretary, a highly placed source in Malacañang confirmed to the Philippine Daily Inquirer Thursday night. He takes over from the late Robredo who died in a plane crash on August 18.

Cavite Representative Joseph E.A. Abaya moves over to the Department of Transportation and Communications, the highly placed source also confirmed to the Inquirer.

Both Roxas and Abaya are stalwarts of the Liberal Party (LP), which is led by President Benigno Aquino. At the request of the Robredo family, both served as pallbearers during the state funeral rites for Secretary Robredo and both had been highly tipped to succeed the latter.

At least three LP members in the House of Representatives on Thursday said the President had made up his mind to move Roxas over to the DILG to sustain the gains made by Robredo who expanded the LP membership among governors and mayors.

No reply

Roxas has not replied to calls on whether he would accept the DILG post if offered by President Aquino.

Abaya, chairman of the House appropriations committee, on the other hand, had declared he would accept the job if offered by the President.

Others whose names had been bruited about, like Vice President Jejomar Binay, were quick to end speculations about their appointment to the DILG. Binay, who pulled a surprise win over Roxas in the May 2010 elections, has announced he will run for president in 2016, said he had no interest in the job.

He suggested, though, that Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr., whom Mr. Aquino appointed officer in charge during the search for permanent DILG secretary, was qualified for the post, having been a top Quezon City Hall executive for years.

Control of DILG

Another Malacañang official said the party’s top brass had lobbied to the President to make control of the DILG by the party a priority over problems on criminality and the spread of illegal numbers games like jueteng, with the approach of next year’s midterm elections.

Another LP member of Congress, who refused to be identified for lack of authority to speak for the party, said LP leaders had made a strong pitch to the President to keep the DILG in the party’s hands during a lunch in Naga City shortly after Robredo was laid to rest last Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the LP held a meeting at its “Balay” headquarters in Quezon City to swear in new members from several provinces. An LP member present said the DILG vacancy issue was not taken up then as party leaders had already talked to Mr. Aquino in Naga the day before. The Balay headquarters is in the Araneta-Roxas family compound in Cubao.

But Iloilo Representative Jerry Treñas, another LP member who attended Robredo’s interment, said Mr. Aquino and other party leaders merely had lunch and talk of Robredo’s replacement never came up.

No discussion

“There were many guests at the lunch, including Cabinet members. No discussions were made on LP matters including the question of who would be the next DILG secretary,” said Treñas in a phone interview.

Abaya and Budget Secretary Florencio Abad Jr., another LP stalwart, did not reply to the Inquirer’s calls.

Former Isabela Governor Grace Padaca, whose name was also floated as a possible Robredo replacement, appeared uncomfortable being mentioned along with the likes of Senator Panfilo Lacson, Davao Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, who headed the DILG in the Estrada administration.

“I’m amused when the matter is talked about. They mentioned Duterte, Lim, Lacson, then Grace Padaca. It’s like I’m being lined up with these competent tough men (mga barako),” she said in Filipino in a media forum at Quezon Memorial Circle.

“Para lang akong salinggit (I’m just a runt alongside them),” she said.

But she added: “Hindi naman ibig sabihin na kami pong mga galing sa local governments ay hindi po namin kaya ’yan (But that’s not to say that we who came from the local governments cannot do the job),” she said. “Kakayanin, kakayanin talaga kung nandun yung challenge. Bakit hindi? (We’ll be able to measure up if challenged. Why not?).”

Padaca downplayed reports she was being considered for the DILG post, saying her name was mentioned probably only as part of “political chatter.” She said there were no such discussions in the Liberal Party, of which she is a member.

Meanwhile, DILG employees who are still mourning the loss of Robredo said they were ready to support his replacement, a DILG official said Thursday.

‘Back to normal’

Interior Undersecretary Austere Panadero said that while the employees were still grieving, operations were “back to normal.”

“The people are still in shock … it will take time but normal governance processes are ongoing,” Panadero said.

He said that among plans being pursued by Robredo before his untimely death on August 18 in a plane crash off Masbate was the relocation of informal settlers from Metro Manila.

“Well, of course, the new secretary would also have to pay attention to that, but at the moment what I’m saying is that Secretary Robredo had clear plans on how to deal with that so we are carrying them out,” Panadero said. With reports from Philip C. Tubeza, PDI, and Matikas Santos,

    The best drivers!

Abaya can boost what Roxas has jumpstarted. DOTC is now well positioned to provide better services while also undergoing continuous improvement, thanks to Roxas.

Roxas can then continue Robredo’s work and even further heighten the results. The expected results from Roxas will be very high but I’m sure he can exceed it since he has the integrity and competence.

I can already imagine how Roxas will challenge the top PNP brass. He will not allow incompetence to taint his unblemished scorecard.

Roxas and Abaya – good choices.  Roxas from Wharton and Abaya from Annapolis/Cornell will run the bureaucracy well. Good luck.

The question now is, are these gentlemen able to replicate what Mayor Pogi did?

    • jau73

      GOD willing, bro.

  • TinimbangNgunitKulang

Binay must be biting his tongue para mapigilang magmura.

  • jau73

I think he can do it. When I heard the news it didnt bother me so, maybe he will be alright.

  • Hey_Dudes

Candidly, this is another earthly ghost haunting the village since it’s grave unraveled.  Simply or ideally, when the new constitution was put in effect,  it could have done well not having created agencies like DILG, PNP and MMDA.  The country did not have these bureaucracies back in decade 50’s but the country was more managed efficiently by local officials specially the police force being under mayors not to the president of the land nor of fat cat generals in cushy air conditioned offices in what used to be an army post – Camp Crame.

One need not have a roomful of diplomas and accolades  extolling their virtues, accomplishments and goals to know what creating these additional layers in government will mean in red tape, additional budget and scandals that has rocked all 3 institutions since their inception.  Ewan ko kung sino ang kupural nito but if she or he or they are still alive, they should be ashamed of themselves for the mess the country is in when red tapes and egos continue colliding against each other at the expense of weary citizens.

    • superpilipinas

Times change, government dynamics change. 50’s organization will not work. DILG, PNP are necessary. Not too sure about MMDA but it prevents clashing of policies between metro cities which confuse metro motorists and residents. We can’t copy US organization of government 100%. For our culture, the current form is best. but I just hope that PNP head is not a presidential appointee. It’s better that he’s appointed by vote in Congress to avoid loyalism and corruption.

    Nice one!

  • Noel

Obviously, it’s a preparation for Mar’s presidential bid in 2013.  He has three years to campaign nationwide as DILG Sec.  This proves disadvantage to Binay, Mar’s closest rival for presidency.  I would have preferred Lacson who I heard is thinking of giving up politics.

    • JK1000

      GO TROLL !

      • usaf9

      • Noel

How well do you know Korina?  I know her well enough to make my opinion.  She married late unable to find a man whom she could control and dominate.  She beat up her maids and when she got sued, she used her influence to settle the case.  Once, she rushed to NBI headquarters when she learned that a good friend was arrested for a crime.  She confronted the NBI personnel and demanded that her friend be released.  Many other things you don’t know about her.

    • Kabayan128

      • Noel

roxas is a good choice than binay……

  • $29483279

This excellent move offers a good challenge for VP Binay for the 2016 presidential election.

Both Binay and Roxas are with unquestionable loyalty to the Aquinos..

So, Bongbong Marcos, back off! It’s not ypur time yet.

    • Jomjom

Binay appears to be loyal to the Aquinos because he need the affiliation. It worked for him well. But he is really for himself and his family. Ginagamit lang nya ang mga Aquino.

Hmmm!  Good choice.   Good luck Mar.  Hope you may be able to meet the demand of the job as what Robredo did in the past.

Ganun?

Great choice, Mar Roxas will do a good job. It’s true no one can replace Sec. Robredo.

  • kaipepo

Nakaprograma na yan. Preparasyon para sa darating na eleksyon. Watch out VP Binay. How about the late Sec. Robredo? Sacrificial lamb?

Perfect choice! Well done, Mr. President!

  • deadlyshooter

he will need to start learning to step down the level of his subordinates, maybe, start getting accustom to the ‘tsenelas’ servitude, and work by example, if he can do it without any aching bones, stiffness, with a willing smile, be dynamic, etc…only then will he be able to have their trust, confidence and support him as they do with Jesse, the people will really start looking, searching and long to see his conversion to a Jesse they have already learned to love, accustom to, feel at ease to work about, just a common dynamic hard working public servant and knowing all these, it will really not be that easy to develop the Robredo character in him for a short time, it will need too much patience…he will need to stoop low and learn to accept them…Let’s see what will transpire next….

    • $29483279

Hinde ba siya si Mr. Palengke as DTI Secretary? How low do you want him to go further?

      • $20722540

      • deadlyshooter

that’s being political, that’s the difference…does he really lowered himself being the mr. palengke or this was just an act? the DILG post is real not make believe…if he would really be a Jesse, he must learn to bend low without having a rheumatoid back afterwards, learn to step on sleepers to walk a flooded street without letting a squirm, in other words…act and do things unique and natural…that’s how Jesse do his job, without pretensions and in full…

  • untamedheart

    Watch out for Judy Roxas…

Good choice, Mar Roxas will be a good representative for the south in the cabinet of Noynoy that is mostly occupied by people from Luzon. I hope he focused more on the problems of the south especially Mindanao because I think DILG is needed more in there.

  • Kabayan128

    Excellent Choice…

  • jpastor

It is maybe a good choice and I prefer Mar than Binay in case both runs for office in the next election. Way to go.
Suggest to start by sponsoring a bill to eliminate political dynasties in the local govt across the country. Our town vice-mayor is the husband of the mayor but lucky he died with cancer.Davao city has father and daughter tandem and that is not equally right as a husband-wife running a town.

    • Kabayan128

      Nice… sapol si Binay dito..hahaha..

  • scusi777

Roxas is an excellent choice. He gets angry when it is due and he also humble and simple despite his being a progeny of great families.

One thing that caught me about Mar Roxas was when he was announcing the timeline of Sec Robredo’s remains recovery, he addressed Atty Leni Robredo as Ma’am Leni. Mar has the culture and the traditional deference to others be they younger or older. Very nice character of a person in private or iin public service.

  • joeybg

  • kalikasanipagtanggol

I am just hoping for the best and not to jinx!

  • Beguine

Mar Roxas showed how very capable and likable he is when
handling a crisis and seeing it tirelessly to a successful conclusion
during the search for Robredo’s remains while the entire nation
watched closely. Many times you can see plainly he hadn’t slept
nor rested but persists in getting the job done with up to the
    minute reports to the nation.

No doubt he won the successor to Robredo post during these
tense and uncertain days of gloom and steadfast difficult searching.

PNoy and Roxas work together in good harmony, efficiency and dependability
and may they be at the forefront of leadership of this country for many years to come.

  • ddano

It’s disappointing! P-Noy let the opportunity (to appoint a non-tradpol) slipped out of his hand. Hopefully Mar Roxas lives up to the challenge of ” doing a ROBREDO” in the performance of his duties as DILG Sec.

    • superpilipinas

If Roxas is a “tradpol”, then we need all to be “tradpol”….he-he-he…what’s a “tradpol”?

    • Tama Lang

Mar will never beat Binay. Mar has never made any contributions to the provinces of Panay, especially in Capiz. He is too political and will use this to advance himself instead of the country. I don’t know if he is a servant leader.

      • superpilipinas

See you have the wrong mentality. Being an official of the national government, he is not suppose to favor his own. He must equally serve the interest of all.

Seems like you want the Marcos and GMA era. Good for some but not good for all!

If you want improvement in Capiz or Panay, complain the mayors, governors and representatives. You’re barking at the wrong tree.

  • arthur1401

Roxas is not a bad choice as the new DILG chief. As a matter of fact, at the present time, to me he is the best there is.

While the subject is roxas, let me recall my take why he lost to binay in 2010 election. I think it was not because roxas was disliked by voters and binay was the best but because roxas’ strategy sucked.

During the campaign, roxas stood as the odd man’s out in pnoy’s group wearing blue shirts when everyone else was wearing yellow as if providing a cue that he won’t toe pnoy’s line of governance. Roxas thought the VP was in the bag. He was dead wrong.

In erap’s camp, everyone else wore orange shirts while binay was in yellow as if saying to voters,”Here I am. I am pnoy’s partner in good governance” and it was effective. Out of the blue, Binay came  like a soaring star. So Noy-Bi won.

Roxas has the chance now to rectify that massive mistake he made in 2010 election. He can use Robredo’s amazing phenomena to prove to the people that he means business and is ready to become the next president by simply matching or even just approximating the excellent jobs done by robredo.

Robredo is incomparable and Roxas will need almost a miracle to just approximate robredo’s accomplishment and bearing in very short time. But it is possible and it can be done by pursuing the programs initiated by robredo to a  successful end, without fanfare, without braggadocio, and the typical robredo’s way.

This is the time for Roxas to shine and what an opportune time. Robredo’s presence is still there and roxas must take advantage of that. The time has come. I wish him luck.

  • nti_boohaya

Good choice.  There is a very fine line between genuine service to the country and using the position to catapult yourself to the presidency.  The barbershop gauge is whether the new chief pounds on the very core of genuine service: honest-to-goodness transparency where every constituents have an access to how well the LGU’s are run (budget, administration and service), accountability of local and provincial chiefs in terms of everything negative like illegal logging, jueteng, corruption, drugs, crime (committed by both those in uniform and otherwise), etc., as well as the positive ones like environmental protection, good governance (housekeeping), disaster preparedness, adherence to national and local laws, anti poverty measures, etc..

The consensus in the barbershop is that if and when Roxas addressed the issues of transparency, accountability, honest-to-goodness governance,  illegal logging, environmental protection, jueteng, private armies, etc. at the LGU level with so much sincerity and vigor regardless of any apprehensions from the local chiefs, 2016 will be a cakewalk.

JESSE ROBREDO as the secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is a VERY TOUGH ACT TO FOLLOW…
But Transportation Secretary Manuel Roxas has ACCEPTED THE CHALLENGE.

Enough of this praise….Tough Act to Follow.
Secretary Robredo did not do well in DILG. His power was clipped. He has no control of the PNP, LGUs are there only for guidance.
    His power is limited.
On a local level, he did great on his province, that is a very tough act to follow, even his lifestyle is really a tough act.
But on National level, there are too many bosses and voices, he was just an obedient boy from the Palace.
This is not to discredit Jesse, he is well secured among the hearts of Filipinos.
In short, don’t ride on the popularity of the secretary….that is a tough act to follow for many are watching.

  • Paliwaweng

  • Rae_E

Great choices both of Roxas & Abaya! Both possess the qualifications the Sec. Jesse Robredo required for public service:

I hope they won’t fail us but continue the legacy of Sec. Jesse.

  • Rey Gan

Kaya nga no offense kay Jesse Robredo.

  • superpilipinas

Don’t get it wrong. Point by point, no one can compare Robredo and Roxas. both are good in their own respective areas. None of them was or is perfect but they are better than most.

Expect to have different styles. What really matters are root cause solutions and results.

Expect little mess-ups here and there since they are not in control of the universe. But…and this is important…we can not allow them to mess up big time and make excuses like they did not graduate from Wharton or Annapolis and have years of experience in their pockets.

  • 4kingdaddy

where does puno fits here?   will he remain as the “I” secretary, and roxas the DLG secretary like the late robredo?……nothing was mentioned about puno’s positon…but if so, and he stays as the man in charge of bartolome and the PNP as a whole, then penoy doesn’t deserve the presidency nor the respect of the filipino people….remember the luneta incident?  almost everybody in this country was blaming robredo, including me…and out of frustration, i am assuming, he fired back that puno is in charge of PNP….now, if penoy allows  himself to be dictated again, then my guess is as good as the rest of the filipinos….i am very anxious about this appointment and puno’s fate…..anybody and everybody knows penoy is grooming roxas to become the heir of his throne……no doubt about that……

    • superpilipinas

“then my guess is as good as the rest of the filipinos”

read the other comments. your guess is as good as yours only.(not the rest of the filipinos).

He-he-he. don’t listen to your barbero. read the news. Just read the front page today of PDI or HK SCMP or Wall Street Journal about the latest WTO report and bloomberg report on Philippine economy.

yes. i am a fool who reads the news. you are a “wise man” who believes your kwentong barbero. he-he-he. yup, name callers like you are indeed, “wise guys”.

      • spearheads

If you are just basing your opinion on news stories then you will be misled. Don’t just read PDI. Also read Manila Standard which deals with the same topic and you will be surprised to find out that they are extremes. After reading everything, make your own opinion or you are no better than the rest of the yellows. Finally, you don’t even have to read anything insofar as Phil economy is concerned. Just look around you and you will have your answer.

In the first place, what the administration is flaunting as “economic recovery” is recovery from it’s OWN MESS and not from the point where it started to hold the reigns of power from GMA’s administration. This is the meat of the blog of adam_d_ant. How could you be so gullible?

      • spearheads

        Fully agree.

Huwag ka nang mahiyang maging Pilipino, denounce it right away. Puro ka satsat. This country of great men does not need perennial cynics. Hindi pa nakakaupo yung tao, puro kayo reklamo. Accept the reality that this is part of politics. Nobody can ever be pleased everytime all at the same time. But to say na ikinakahiya mo maging Pilipino, that’s an insult to our people.

• el_latigo

Its becoming more and more clear now.

The DILG post is one the most important cabinet portfolios in government. Its head, the DILG Secretary,  has overall uber influence over all mayors and governors of this country, without exception. This only means one thing.  The LP is gearing for the next presidential elections in 2016 where UNA’s,  VP Binay,  has already started “subtly” campaigning this early.  And Erap too,  as shown by his moving one of his carapaces from San Juan to Manila obviously just to meet the minimum 6 months residency COMELEC mandated requirement to be able to run for  Mayor in Manila.

To be honest about it, between Roxas and Binay, I would vote a hundred times for Roxas, though his track record did not impress me so much, rather than give one vote to Binay. That is,  if this is only allowed by our Election Code. Binay, the next president? You must be kidding Fulpy. We will be in much, much  worst shape if that happens.  Perhaps worst than the unlamented GMA administration  if he gets to sit in Malacanang for 6 years. Just read Tulfo’s two columns about a certain unnamed politician who is topping SWS’ popularity poll among the current crop of elected officials. You can only weep and gnash your teeth in desperation. Tulfy claims he now owns half of the city he used to “serve” as mayor. Go figure.

    • adam_d_ant

i’m with you here bro … in fact i was disappointed that roxas gave way to aquino … between binay and roxas, i’d vote for the later.

regarding electioneering, it is not just binay/erap that started the ball rolling.  the camp of the liberals as well.  both camps already announced a partial list of candidates for the senate.  in fact during the last flood, the “assistants” of aquino were all senatorial candidates.

between the two camps, sino kaya ang dapat maging senador?  mahirap ang choice bro … puro balimbings and butterflies.  i’d vote of course for gordon … sana tumakbo uli si flavier and hopefully bayani.  will the filipinos rise up to the challenge and rejects candidates who are sons/daughters/siblings of those who are in power?

  • Noypi11

After Binay was elected vice president he wished that Pres. Aquino give him the added job as DILG sectretary since  VP is no job at all. Now he is saying that he is not interested? Hypocrite!

I feel our country is near to become SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES. LP will become the only political party, similar to NAZI.

    • spearheads

That is why Teddy Locsin calls it the Libingan Party.

    • IsipPinoy

What makes you think LP will become the only political party in the Philippines? By the way, don’t you know that in some ways the Philippines is already a socialist country? Think of Social Security and Phil Health – those are socialist ideas.

  • Fulpol

    Duterte said, I’m not qualified.

VP Binay said, I’m not interested

Grace Padaca said, I’m ready for the challenge.. like Robredo she is also RM Awardee

… Mar Roxas is now the new DILG Secretary…

  • 1VeritasAequitas

  • padrefaura

so what is his “special” qualification for the SILG?

    • IsipPinoy

  • NegaStarr

  • speedstream2

Is this a surprising choice? Not really. Anyways, if true, then Secretary M. Roxas (or whomever it is) has his work cut out for him as DILG chief. Needless to say, the late Sec. Robredo is a tough act to follow.

  • BatangSingapore

    • IntsikPwetPakantot

  • eirons1043

Political history in the Philippines shows us that the position of the Speaker of the House is “malas” us it never won any Presidential Election. With Mar Roxas assumption of DILG Secretary, this cabinet position might be another Speaker of the House clone. Mar Roxas appears to be too trying hard to be President and that does not look good. However, if he can be a clone of Robredo at least in form and a little substance then the “malas” be gone. But can he be like Robredo he is too rich and belongs to a dynasty.

Isa siyang marangal at mabuting tao.

  • ric

congratulation sec. mar. truly qualified for the position. belonging to a long line of family of public servants. from manuel to gerry to mar. sir good luck…

  • Cal_Reznick

    Ok so what now?

A tragic event took place which claimed the former DILG Sec. He was fittingly celebrated and remembered. A new one is named in his place. But we’re back to where we were a few weeks ago which is, a lot of problems in the country still being ignored by this Administration.

  • TagaMlang

“The proof of the pudding is in the eating”.  Mar Roxas has to prove himself fit for the job.  His short stint with DOTC had not really made him an extraordinary performer.  Well, let’s see….

But the assignment as DILG secretary will be a great advantage to Roxas if he decides to run for the presidency in 2016.  Turncoatism is a way of life in Philippine politics.  And the way it is now, a lot of local officials are jumping the fence into the LP.  By 2016, he could have consolidated and strengthened the LP to support his candidacy.

Be that as it may, politics is politics, but he should never forget his commitment to do a Robredo.

  • Hey_Dudes

With due respect to Ms. Grace Padaca and not making light of her being a handicapped person, although many Filipinos myself included acknowledges her skill, honesty, dedication and grit towards official functions, the post requires someone who need to be agile and mobile able to get in and out of a critical situation in a snap of the finger.

It is a thankless job and a job likely to put anyone in danger specially when part of the function is going after those who are in the business of fomenting chaos and instability to the nation.  It creates animosity and enemies from all sides among criminal elements.

Ms. Grace Padaca deserves to be in government and will be effective as undersecretary or adviser to the executive branch.  Good Luck.

    • Lolo Mo

Heads of Departments and Commission need not
travel. It is their brain that functions. A good manager is not one who goes
out to the field and meets people. He is in his air-conditioned office thinking
what is best for his constituents, Then he send someone to implement his ideas.
Otherwise, it is merely for political propaganda. Attending Conferences,
Anniversaries, and Inaugurations is the lease of his worry. He can delegate
these duty to someone trusted and get the feedback later on.

Padaca can run the agency through proxy.

      • IsipPinoy

I agree with you 100%. To say that Gov. Padaca cannot do an effective job as DILG secretary just because she has some physical disability is wrong. The position requires more of brain than brawn plus integrity which she had shown while in office as governor.  An example: Disabled by polio, American President Franklin Delano Roosevelt led his country through crises (Great Depression and WWII) effectively and I believe was the only US president elected three times.

  • SS

    • Lolo Mo

You got a point there.

    • boyod

what do you think SS, the plane crashed when the DOTC is Mar Roxas, very competent? ask lang ko

  • spearheads

What I am curious is what will happen to the in fighting and power struggle inside the Palace? Robredo belongs to Roxas’ Balay faction. In fact, Roxas personally recommended Robredo to the DILG portfolio. Yet, to minimize any dissent PNoy appointed Puno as Usec and in fact, sliced the Department, giving the “Interior pie” control to Puno who belongs to Samar faction. What is surprising is that when Robredo died Ochoa who is also a Samar faction member heads the DILG temporarily. Now, if it is true that Roxas will be the DILG Chief, will he have full control over the PNP and relegate the controversial Puno ng Grasya to the sidelines? I seriously doubt and this will be problematic knowing that Mar will not settle for anything less. What I am sure of is the old Pilipino adage in politics which says that, “kapag naubos na lahat ang kalaban, sila sila na rin ang magbabanatan.” This happened to the late Dictator and history will always repeat itself. Abangan!

    • Lolo Mo

PNoy and Roxas are just playing a make believe game. Roxas gave in his presidential ambition to give way to PNoy, but that does not make him a subordinate. It was only a political accomodation and consideration, sort of struttegy, otherwise, they could have lost to Erap.

Up to know, each of them are conolidating their power, , to geared for the next election in 2016. Everyone is watching Roxas performance. As DOTC, Roxas can be considered average. No significant improvement other than the ordinary. For me, this will be the last chance for Roxas to impress the people. If he fails as DILG, then, goodbye to presidency. Sayang si Korina. She married him for that position, not a second fiddle. He heh e.

      • IsipPinoy

I think you’re korek there about Korina. Hehehe.

  • Wee

Bakit kaya si Mar ang sa DILG? I believe it would be wise to put an action-man, a firm and accessible  reformist. Maybe on the honesty, integrity areas, just like Pnoy, he can score high. And we need somebody who could at least approximate Jesse Robredo. For me, Mar is not near Robredo on the initial qualities I mentioned.

    • IsipPinoy

Wow, a la JD Powers & Associates rating category “initial qualities.”  But I believe Mar Roxas has the qualifications and integrity to be the DILG secretary. Yes, let’s just give him a chance.

  • Wee

Sa DTOC, what reforms has Mar achieved?

  • Cav Cav

  • rising_phoenix40

Parang may mali yata sa news above. The first 5 paras. talk about the appointment of the new DILG and DOTC secretaries. The succeeding paras. were lifted from news prior to selection, which as if none was selected yet. Ano ba yan, Inquirer. Ayusin naman ng writer nyo.

Mar is perceived as a weak DOTC secretary for 2 ineffective years and has not made a significant mark in DOTC as he in fact failed to shepherd CAAP (the one supervising planes’ airworthiness like the piper seneca which killed Robredo) to bring its international ratings back to passing category 1 status from failing Category 2 status (The US Federal Aviation Authority has found CAAP deficient in the ff: the lack of qualified safety personnel and the absence of an integrated IT system to modernize the sector’s database). His DILG stint will be his political demise! Sabagay Mar’s political life seems to be dead anyway since his 2010 defeat and he has shown his true self – weak and indecisive and lacking political savvy. Unlike Robredo, he did not leave a decisive trail in DOTC just a hohum drifting-like-a-log performance.

  • Lolo Mo

Fools! Fools. How can we initiate a new beginning when we are at it again, Puro appoint dito, then appoint diyan.Tapos, lipat na naman. Ano to reGOdon. We are playing with millions if not billions of Juan de la Cruz money with our wimps. It takes almost a life time to master running a Bureau or a Commission, and here we are appointing newphytes as though they can make the difference.

Ito si PNoy, really a power hungry.. He wants to consolidate the authority to just a chosen few.

He he he.!

    • Mario_Garcia

Let’s face it, masmagaling talaga ang mga Chinese, nakikita naman natin that they’re everywhere in our society and excels in almost all fields be it legal or not.

  • pekpeknio

Roxas to DILG? Really? PNoy, What were you thinking? This is the reason why nothing will ever happen to pending projects at DOTC! Roxas is indeed a quitter! More than a year after, we’re still in Category 2 of the FAA, and ICAO, wala ka pang naacomplish sumuko ka na agad, isa lang tong maneuver for the next presidential election on 2016, sa tingin mo ba merong boboto sayo n maging presidente eh!

Ang sigurado dito is yun incoming DOTC Secretary eh papa-stop na naman yun mga projects for bidding at magpapa thorough review, in the end, walang project na mauumpisahan at matatapos. Dapat na nilalagay sa pwesto as cabinet secretary eh yun mga taong walang balak tumakbo for public office, para they can make sure na matatapos lahat ng plano.

    Darn politics!

    • RatsadaBlues

    • carlcid

Look at it on the bright side, at least from the perspective of DOTC…DOTC’s gain, by getting rid of Mar Roxas, is DILG’s loss.

  • Cav Cav

Tingnan niyo kung gaano “kagaling” si Mar

    From Boo Chanco’s column (Philstar)
The latest survey of the Makati Business Club is very revealing. It shows DOTC Secretary Mar Roxas losing the respect of his traditional constituency – the Makati Business sector. DOTC is now ranked 43, down from its previous rank of 27 and a net negative score of  -16.3 compared to a negative score of  -10.8 same time last year.”Well, maybe Mar will score better next time if DOTC gets really going. It has been credited with coordinating a multi-agency effort to scrap over time charges of Customs, Immigration and Quarantine personnel. It is also set to release the airline passenger bill of rights. It is also starting the process of bidding out the extension of LRT1 to Cavite. On the airport, DOTC is still getting lousy reviews for Terminal 1 and the seeming delay in its upgrade. The handling of airport congestion was also less than desirable as domestic airlines were penalized first because Mar didn’t have the balls to move out general aviation from NAIA. He was afraid of offending the corporate fat cats who downgraded his approval rating anyway. The problem with Mar is that he is so stingy with information. An infrastructure agency like DOTC is obligated to give the public progress reports on its projects. I cannot understand how a supposedly intelligent politician can neglect this aspect of his job so badly. No wonder he is getting a negative press and a plunging approval rating.Consider the negative impact of these lead sentences in a Wall Street Journal article on our international airport:“The airport code “MNL” – for Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport – can strike fear into the hearts of even the most hardened business travelers.

    • Mario_Garcia

The Makati Business Club was not even liked by the majority of the people.

    • RatsadaBlues

You have the support of Filipino people who have high hopes for clean and efficient government.

    • super judge

di ka na naka move on kay gloria. baka napapanaginipan mo pa sya until now! Move on na!

      • edleon

  • boyod

ito ba  ang konsepto ni Pres Noynoy sa kanyang “Daang Matuwid” na “to make control of the DILG by the  party (LP) over problems on criminality and the spread of  illegal numbers, like jueteng” o’ sa mga  LP vulltures lang na nakapaligid kay Pinoy. Mr President please for the good of your promise to free our government from corruption listen to the pleas of the people.

    • RatsadaBlues

patiwakal ka na lang kaya??? hahahahaha

  • Mario_Garcia

    Good choice, Roxas is qualified.

    • padrefaura

      what is his qualification?
close kay PNoy?  2013 and 2016 agenda?

      • Mario_Garcia

He was not prepared either when he became the Secretary of Trade, but eventually he became known as Mr. Palengke. It doesn’t take experience to do a job, all it takes is devotion and passion to do the job.

      • Homer Guo

media hype ang pagiging mr palengke nya…you look into his accomplishments noon sa post nya wala rin…. pa cute kasi sya sa media kahit saang palengke magpunta andun camera so ano pa maasahan mo

  • isidro

    • IsipPinoy

  • Lolo Mo

      Puro pala may
Now, I know.

When lady Mayor Duterte sack the Sheriff in front of the
Camera, all DILG Robredo said is “Let’s wait for further
investigation.” Nakita mo nang sinuntok ng ilang beses ang Sheriff who was
merely performing his duty, puro “for futher investigation pa ang sinasabi
mo.” Wala man lang preventive
suspension. This is the stark truth in our politics which is 95% dominated by
Chinese. When ever one of them faults, they are just given a kids glove.

Si PNoy din, heads will roll,
he said after the butch hostage taking. Yet, Mayor Lim, former ExGeneral of
PNP,(forgot his name), Sec. Puno, and etc were not met with disciplinary
measure. Takot si PNoy sa kanila being a young President.

    • IntsikPwetPakantot

There will always be people na walang ginawa kundi humanap ng mali sa lahat ng bagay.  Sabi nga, “you will never know what truth is, even if it bit you on your face!”

    • dragon27

You’re giving the President too much credit and power.

It is not the President that made Jesse a hero, but the people. Nakisakay lang sila kung sakali. The label “hero” will not stick if the person is not fit to be called one. Ask the people who know.

It would have been more credible on the cynics/opposition’s part to claim that the President rode on Jesse’s stature, than him create a hero. Do not underestimate the people’s intelligence, even if they falter most of the time.

  • Troy

I support Pres. Aquino’s appointment of Mar Roxas as new DILG Chief.  He’s got the brains and vision to do where Jesse Robredo left oof.  Let’s demand that Roxas implement Robredo’s plan of dismantling and relocating illegal settlers, also the works on  “illegal logging” and most impt of all, continue on the groundworks laid by Robredo regarding good and transparent governance. IPAGPATULOY DAPAT ANG KATINUAN AT KAGALINGAN ni Robredo.

    • KapitanBagwis

Balls and political will is more likely needed to control. Roxas is gunning for the presidency so most likely he will kowtow to the LGU to get votes. If PDI is correct the appointment is purely political consideration.

  • JB Pil

But no!!

    • IsipPinoy

Bayani Fernando would have been a good choice. A no nonsense kind of public servant who does not make decisions based on political considerations. He did a very good job in Marikina and at MMDA. He is one of the very few who worked under Gloria who, I far as I’m aware of, was not tainted with corruption.

      • Francis Ponce

Pink Fences… remember???? Who says he is not corrupt???

      • super judge

Bayani Fernando of marikina? Oh no!!! Baka maging marikina ang buong pilipinas. Lubog sa baha

      • adscity_info

I agree with you. Bayani is a good choice. May political will.

      • KapitanBagwis

Bayani is a good man, but just being good is not enough. He does not have the ball to  make Makati and other city to follow the simple color coding, what more the jueteng and drug lords, abusive LGU officials and kotong cops. Mar Roxas is not the man for DILG either, he’s got no balls unlike Lacson

  • carlcid

DILG was too important a post for Mar Roxas to entrust to anybody else. Mar had to take it over himself, what with elections coming next year and Mar’s own ambitions to run for president in 2016 on the line. Mar and Korinna lost the prizes they crave most in 2010. They lost the presidency to P-Noy and later lost the consolation prize to B-Nay. Now they want to make sure that they don’t lose the all-important prize this time.

  • adscity_info

I would rather prefer Former Senator Richard Gordon for the DILG post.

    • super judge

masaya na sya sa red cross

    • Hipon

Finally meet you again, you are the one who post same thing on “tsinelas leadership” page, you must be still sucking dick’s ball (take note singular) until now, you have to let it go now and see the real world around you….

People from the DOT walk out on him, yes “WOW”. I have two very good friends who work with Philippine Red Cross as an executive staff position they resign because they can not fathom the corruptness of Dick, Philippine Red Cross is a humanitarian organization then, now courtesy of Dick it is blanketed with corruption, utilizing the organization as his political machinery and uses the organization funds for his corrupt political ambition.

Since then I have received at lot of emails from former and present staff of Philippine Red Cross.

One email says: during a board meeting Dick was in rage threw a bottled water, luckily no got hurt for no reason at all, later they found out that Philippine Red Cross does not have enough blood to provide…’WOW” Dick

Another email says: a cash dole out was partially implemented was called off because he is not the one who personally handing over the cash to the beneficiaries, “WOW” poor beneficiaries they have to suffer that much, because of his corrupt political ambition.

Another email interest me: asking for help to twit for more, to the President of the PH, Senate President, House Speaker to help them kick Dick out of Philippine Red Cross, because a lot of donors are not so keen on providing support anymore, the staff wants to restore the Philippine Red Cross image as a humanitarian organization again back to its glory days where donors, supporter really believe Philippine Red Cross actions towards Filipino people…”WOW” Dick…

Try to search “Big Dick Gordon” on YouTube, people in Olongapo City rally for him when he was about to be kick out of SBMA, for me I don’t think people will rally for him at Philippine Red Cross (there could be a handful people who would, but more than 98% would not according to one of the email)..”WOW” Dick what have you done to an organization..

“WOW, WOW” dick for DILG you must be kidding right or this is just to get in LP party, because LP don’t want you in there party… “WOW, WOW” Dick…..

      • adscity_info

Anong sinasabi mong  “tsinelas leadership” page?

      • sonic99363

thanks for this info. i thought all the while that mr. gordon is honest and sincere humanitarian. though alam ko na noon pa na arrogante at mabilis ma hb

    • Bodhi_437

  • tra6Gpeche

If Mr Mar Roxas accepts the position of DILG Secretary, this would mean that he is not afraid to show the Filipinos what he can do for the country. The late Jesse Robredo will be hard to copy. But perhaps, Mr. Mar Roxas knows he can equal the accomplishment of the great Mr. Robredo or even do better. This is the challenge that a real man loves to have. Mr. Roxas has everything to gain if he does the job of DILG secretary quite well just like his predecessor. I wish him luck!

    • edleon

Agree!

  • QritiQ

I’m surprised! I just hope Sec Mar Roxas can solve the current peace and order problem that has engulfed our country at the moment. We have no choice but to support him ‘tho i thought Sen. Ping Lacson would have been a great choice for the DILG post. It was political accomodation over competency – again.

    • adscity_info

I agree. Ping Lacson, The Mastermind.

      • super judge

        Mastermind of thousands of crimes

      • KapitanBagwis

Talagang super judge ka. Charge him if you have evidence or gossip lang ang meron ka

      • Homer Guo

  • QritiQ

Let’s wait and see. In the end, the people will be the judge if this move is correct. Good luck Sec Mar Roxas.

  • QritiQ

     a Hater’s reply is worthless.

    • padrefaura

A praise reply is worth how much?

      P10 per post ba?

  • Bonifacio Aquino

The loss of Robredo is Roxas’s gain, a bonanza. Matagal nang naglalaway si Mar sa DILG. He could have got the post anyway even without Sec Jess’ passing away thru a cabinet revamp kasi nunka na makalusot sa Comm on Appointments si Robredo dahil sa mga kaaway nya sa politika. he grabbed it this time baka mapapunta pa kay Binay, his arch enemy o sa iba. Lacson could have been a disaster, I rather prefer the feisty but honest and intelligent Gov. Padaca.

  • vilmavee

As Trade Secretary, Mr. Mar Roxas’ visits to many public markets earned him the title of MR. PALENGKE.
Now, as DILG Sec., what title would best suit him?

    • Night

      Mr. Palengkero

    • vin reyes

      arte mo naman…

    • padrefaura

      mister ni Korina.

    • adscity_info

      Mr. Pa-pogi.

  • Fulpol

Mar Roxas should learn how to run the DILG from former DILG Sec Ronaldo Puno, if he desire to win for the 2016 Presidential Election…

    Puno the “the operator”.

  • Adarna

Roxas?!?  the male side of legarda?!? oh no!

  • ethicsingov

Let’s welcome this chance for Mr Roxas to prove his presidential potential.

  • Magsasaka

  • Adarna

    still he will not win…

mga taong ambisyoso wala namagn nagawa..puro pa pogi lng… nagpa kulay pa ng white sa “hair” to make him more mature and old enough to get votes last election…

    walang kwenta…

i go for anyone xcept him, chua and abaya

  • I_kabod

    anak ka ng…bat eto???

  • ThudOthwacker

Gone in the days (Marcos time) when a specialist or technocrats are appointed for a cabinet positions. Now days, you have to be at least a member of the party.

Mar Roxas like his grandfather are both power junkie.

    • Kilabot ng mga Balahibo

      OO nga ano?

As in career specialist manning the highest position of that facet of government.

My pref were JPE, Virata, & Mendoza.

      • ThudOthwacker

JPE was bar top notcher and he works for Marcos senate office. Virata works for SGV & Co.  and UP before being appointed. Mendoza same with Virata before being appointed. All three are not a politico when they started to worked for the government.

      • Kilabot ng mga Balahibo

Yes. Never knew of this people until I hit the (history) book.

You can’t deny, it was very interesting times.

  • sonic99363

    superrrrr like! (-: keber ko sa mga nega na ayaw hehehehe. mamatay kayo sa asar. joke (-;

  • Jelly

Your headline is misleading, Inquirer. This is way too low. Only Tabloids do this.

  • Hipon

the difference between Dick and Mar are there names, family names. Other than that they are the same….not capable…

We have to help people understand who not to vote, Dick, Maceda, Joker, Mar, Tito, Lapid,

  • magsasakasanayon

wala na bang iba, pareng noynoy?

  • Kilabot ng mga Balahibo

    Somehow, I’m not surprised.

  • Mananandata69

Why Roxas? He has yet to prove himself as Sec. of DOTC. He had not any worthwhile projects as DOTC head. Power play ang mangyayari to position himself as next candidate for 2016. He can influence the local gov’t units to support him

    • bert

what is wrong with that?..that is plain and simple political strategy.

    • Magsasaka

  • kilabot

roxas is a failure at dotc (airport congestion, flight delays, world’s worst airport, overcrowded lrt/mrt, traffic jam, high cost of comms, etc.), expect the same outcome at dilg.
roxas is no robredo. no, not even if he wears bakya. sorry folks.

    • JK1000

      Utak Talangka ! alisin mo.

    • Mangangarap

Nobody will ever be a Jesse Robredo. He’s a once in a lifetime official. So stop heightening your delusional expectations and start supporting good governance.

  • KapitanBagwis

Very bad choice PNoy if this is true. Roxas have no balls to control abusive local government officials, corruptions in LGU. drug and jueteng lords, abusive and kotong cops. Bad mistakes, this is pure politics. PNoy, very bad mistake.

Agree, Kap, the man for me is Pampilo Lacson.

    • Erny

      • Luffy D. Dog

But as a Filipino we are entitled to an opinion and that’s one thing we can do to keep the butts of our elected officials working. That is why credit is given to Sec. Jesse but you know who belongs another credit? It’s his “constituents” where they support him for his good deeds and speak out for his errors. (Just watch a documentary and you’ll know how Sec. Robredo trust and act upon the Naga people’s voice)

      • KapitanBagwis

Ano ba ginagawa mo dito, nakikitsatsat?

    • JK1000

      Utak Talangka !  alis !

  • Jun Go

“He is the next DILG secretary, a highly placed source in Malacañang confirmed to the Philippine Daily Inquirer Thursday night.

Roxas is new secretary of DILG”

“Cavite Representative Joseph E.A. Abaya moves over to the Department of
Transportation and Communications, the highly placed source also
    confirmed to the Inquirer.”

Anyways, kahit sino pa ang umupo dyan, wishing the secretary all the best to be successful.

  • kilabot

as for abaya at dotc, he will do like an arab woman wearing the garb. does nothing and become fat. 3-term congressman and nothing to show for it.

  • kruger

I think Mar will perform better at the DILG.  Conversely, I hope Abaya does well as DOTC chief.

At any rate, the show must go on and these developments might prove prophetic for the body politic in this country…

  • bert

we are so fast in condemning people in the government…if you were in his shoes, do you think you could have done a better job????..THINK!

  • Hipon

“Tsinelas Leadership”, yes it is Robredos personality, simple, honest to himself and to the people and very simple, top performer. I salute you Jesse for your hard work…

Dick, Mar you are tsinelas, makes your faces thinner while being used on the roughest road in the country….

  • im_not_convinced

Another LP member of Congress, who refused to be identified for lack of
authority to speak for the party, said LP leaders had made a strong
pitch to the President to keep the DILG in the party’s hands during a
lunch in Naga City shortly after Robredo was laid to rest last Tuesday.

    Are we even surprised?

    • Neneng V. Dy

    • marionics

oo nga, dapat they made a pitch for UNA ano? he he

      • im_not_convinced

the DILG post is too important to lose now that elections are coming up. HUGE advantage for the LP on the local election front.

      • big dawg

you are so dumb. no need to explain. it’s difficult to argue with someone who has an IQ of below 50. your comments are just so… dumb

      • im_not_convinced

that’s because you’re too stupid to make sense.
is this the quality of commenter’s LP’s money could buy? oh well strength in numbers, basta they have 3rd grade reading quivalent, pwede na yan.

      • im_not_convinced

you’re an ignorant idiot who is under LP’s payroll.

    • edleon

Wow nandito ka na naman… Kahit sino piliin ni PNOY I’m sure ayaw mo.. Mag paka lalaki ka na please…

      • im_not_convinced

thats because their appointment pattern is so obvious. it’s traditional politics all over again. something promised to be eliminated.

you just stay a yellowtard on the LP payroll.

      • edleon

        excuses.. excuses… tsk..tsk..tsk..

      • JK1000

        You’re an Idiot !

      • JK1000

        Si Mitos yan..huwag mong pansinin.

      • hatecorrupt

lol, lol, lol……utak talangka yan….at kamag anak pa ni, lol…

    • JK1000

      So……………….. Go troll !

  • 1ncorruptus

  • Luffy D. Dog

This is again a “political choice” just the same as not fully supporting FOI bill. I think Aquino is in dilemma over a confidant ally or alliance in governing instead of considering a united country to one end. I used to be a believer of “tuwid na daan” but I digress especially of what has been accomplished by this current government where what is promised is not delivered and mediocre. As for the position the 3 most deserving (sad to say they are not LP’s): BAYANI FERNANDO, DICK GORDON, EDWARD HAGEDORN.

    • benj

good choices, sadly, not of these names were mentioned to replace Sec. Jess.

  • Boypickup555

Roxas the right choice as new DILG secretary….

  • billy gunner

    • jga94

Why?Roxas has been appointed by so many administrations before PNoy’s—that just goes to show how effective he is…plus I have not heard him to be trapo….more of a technocrat….

    • JK1000

      Ikaw ba?

  • Jerry_SeinfeId

    Go Roxas go.

I’ve read a lot of negative comments over this appointment, so allow me to give my thoughts on this…..
I wish PNoy had chosen someone else for the opost of DILG Sec….but you all have to take note that Sec.Robredo’s family chose both Abaya and Roxas to be pall bearers at his funeral… there must be something between Sec. Robredo and Roxas that was good……and if made to choose between Binay and Roxas, I would choose Roxas any day….Binay has built a political dynasty in Makati, thinking that only someone with the surname of Binay can rule there…..Binay was a Cory loyalist then became the loyalist of someone, who was a Marcos loyalist-ERAP…..then he ran with Erap, but had no qualms about knowing that some people campaigned for a PNoy-Binay ticket…to a certain extent, he sold Erap out…now he forms a coalition with Erap-UNA, and accepts just anybody, even Zubiri and Mitos Magsaysay….Let’s talk about these 2…..While I admire Zubiri’s resignation, I am not a fool to believe that he did not know that GMA was cheating for him….and Mitos has been one of GMA’s staunchiest supporters……..Binay will probably be the next president and all the gains of this present presidency will all be for naught…..Binay is a TRAPO…you all know that!…
Sana nga si Lacson na lang sa DILG, because this appointment will definitely caused this furor…but again, Robredo and Roxas seemed to be friends…so who knows…let’s give this guy a chance.

    • hatecorrupt

IN SHORT LP PEOPLE ARE ALOT BETTER THAN UNA………UNA – unahan sa kurakutan…

  • Neneng V. Dy

…and why not? being an LP, a member of the inner circle of the President, he’s so qualified!

  • Lateralus

    • jedi

what? mas magaling naman si binay kesa roxas? bakla ka rin ba gaya ni PNoy? mag-dyowa tong dalawang to e!

  • sugbu

perfect launch pad….it is going to be Roxas litmus test.

    • quphal

      • sugbu

I am just pondering a smooth transition and sort of, an audacity of hope.

  • RyanE

It’s not confirmed yet but I guess Sec. Roxas will be a better choice compared to Sen. Lacson. There has to be a good working relationship between DILG and DOJ with respect to ongoing campaign against criminality, graft and corruption, etc. Sadly, Sec. De Lima and Sen. Lacson are at odds with each other.

  • boypalaban

  • Homer Guo

good luck….. kay Roxas at sa ating lahat…… lol

  • Handiong

Good choice. Now that the decision has been made, everybody just has to accept it. Nothing can change it. Any criticism of it is just blowing off steam.

  • poltergeist_fuhrer

    roxas is better

…than lacson who was once a fugitive

…than duterte who has blood in his hands

…than binay who is a trapo

  • Albert Einstien

it’a welcome development..roxas has never involved in JUETENGGATE & no anomaly in DOTC…besides he may be given full control of dilg…. sec roxas is closer to pnoy than late sec robredo..who only got 50% of dilg… since police matters are given to puno…roxas should be given a freehand to choose his… asecs , usecs &  dept. heads..good luck….. : > )

  • Maricar

    Let’s give him a chance!

    • Baket?

My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. I hope Mar shares the fate of Jesse. I look forward to Mar’s successor Panfilo.

      • wakats

My suspicion is confirmed – you’re from UNA…

Yehey! Congratulations to Mar Roxas. I hope your plane crashes too. I hope they never recover your body. I hope your kid out of wedlock with your housemaid comes out to denounce you. I hope Korina finds a better man to make her happy and keep her K-spot stimulated in long intervals. I hope with your passing, Panfilo will finally be our DILG secretary.

    • Albert Einstien

ping is also good choice & most candidates…despite being a very  hot item.. dont curse people even if you hate them most… coz it will come back to you a thousand fold… just a friendly reminder… : > )

      • JK1000

Your boy Ping Lason don’t deserve it , that’s the reason he didn’t get it. Noynoy wants someone who has credibility. Lacson brings so much problems to his government.

      • Albert Einstien

lacson is a good choice but not  on my list ..for dilg …they are GIBO, GORDON, BAYANI, & JC…but i doubt these FEW GOOD MEN will NOT accept even if it’s offered… coz they have delicadeza… just like when pnoy offered gibo the DND post…he declined….. : > )

      • billy gunner

glad to know you root for gibo…

      • Albert Einstien

        pilot-cpa-lawyer — harvard educated…never involved in corruption….sane mind…only fools will not root for him… : > ).

    • hatecorrupt

      talangka and alimango mentality…

  • billy gunner

    To put an end to
speculations, binay officially said he’s not interested in the DILG post, while
roxas accepted it with open arms (and open legs)! I wonder who’s hungry for
    power here! lol

    • JK1000

billy, your boy Binay knew that he’s so busy campaigning to be the next President. And Noynoy is not that stupid to give him more power. Noynoy knows that Binay has a hidden agenda. The reason why Noynoy gave it to Mar Roxas is so simple, he needs someone who’s not corrupt, and someone he can trust. Sorry, it’s not your idol Binay.

      • efriend

Correct.  Binay is currently head of housing development.  Some tipsters told me that Binay has been giving away houses for soldiers and police personnel.  Why?  Only Binay’s supporters are deaf and blind to the reality.

      • billy gunner

        Wrong. It’s called
delicadeza. Binay didn’t lobby for himself as people will certainly interpret
it as greed. In fact, he is trying to be humble as possible. That’s what a
gentleman does—making sure everyone around him is comfortable as possible. As
for Roxas, well aquino trusts him so much with his dirtiest nocturnal secrets,
hence roxas’ appointment. Of course aquino is not just stupid. He is also
playing dirty politics as usual, and every yellowturd here sees it as gospel! lol

      • Guest

JK1000: “The reason why Noynoy gave it to Mar Roxas is so simple, he needs someone who’s not corrupt, and someone he can trust.”

It simply, he needs someone who always says yes. Normal in all governments of the world. Period.

  • It’s No Time To Doubt Now

Naku, sa bangayan na naman mauuwi ito.

    Mar vs Binay.

DILG Sec Mar vs Binay, Erap, Enrile, Maceda and UNA.

In the end, nothing gets done.

    Tayong mga Pilipino ang kawawa.

    • JK1000

    • Mangangarap

This is just plain sad! What’s next? For every move of the incumbent government, there will always be someone that says kawawa na naman ang Pinoy on every Pinoys behalf.

It helps to be a little optimistic sometimes.

    • hatecorrupt

binay, enrile, erap & maceda are corrupts and trapos…majority of the people know them….

    Message foe VP Binay:

Apart from this appointment of Mar Roxas for this powerful DILG position, you (VP Binay)
should expect the fallowing issues for declaring, too early, your plan for presidency in 2016.

!. Political dynasty: Your children and your wife.

    2. Unexplained or ill gotten wealth: From a street activist to what you are now, perceived to level with the Ayalas, Sy, Tan. MVP, Gokongwei and other legal business moguls.

    3. Your perceived Lip service loyalty to the Aquino Clan to gain political favors & votes.

    4. Growing doubts about your credibility and sincerity in your choice of political allies and candidates under your wing.

    • Sarkasmos

And the gull of Binay during the campaign to take credit for Makati’s development. Makati was already the premier business district long before Binay was there. Makati is where it is now not because of Binay but DESPITE him.

      • efriend

Let us call a spade a spade.  Makati is Makati because of the Ayalas.  Binay’s mansion in Tagaytay is a mansion because of …hmmm….you know the source.

      • hatecorrupt

        Im 300% agree with you…

      • tuldok

me too… i just wish Pres Cory, during her reign and thereafter, was able to guide or rein on Binay, as she was the one responsible for bringing Binay to the doorsteps of power…

I believe that Mar Roxas is one of the good ones, wag nating itaboy paalis ang mga kagaya nila, suportahan natin.

Share it on facebook, tweet it, post it on tumblr, send it to youscoop, blog about it. If it is well researched, if it has basis, and if it is the truth, people will believe in and support you.

    • efriend

Both Mar and Abaya will be very good.  Their educational background and credentials are awesome.

      • sanjuan683

  • whyinthisworld

Pinoy should give mar 100 pct. of DILG. Remove puno on the other side. We don’t need him. For mar, he must show how hard and competent he is. He should possess very strong political well to implement what sec. robredo dream for the filipino people. Stop politicking, we are very very feed up with it. Anyway, will be watching you mar, pls. don’t fail us.

    • sanjuan683

  • Gerald Abueva

Mar has too many enemies by now. They will want to see him fail. If not, they will try to bring him down. Mar is just too polarizing a person to be DILG secretary. He’s got too much political baggage to be objective and nonpartisan. Instead of going for a political appointee, PNoy should opt for a career officer to be the DILG secretary. Inside DILG, there are tenured, experienced and qualified candidates, too.

    • hatecorrupt

binay? lacson? duterte? napakaraming enemies ang mga yan….when you are in politics…you will never run out enemies….roxas is better choice than all of the above……padaca and abaya aregood alternatives too….long live LP….DOWN WITH UNA OF BINAY, ESTRADA, ENRILE, MACEDA AND MANY MORE…..LOL LOL.

      • Al

        Agree! :)

      • JK1000

BOBO !

Mar’s integrity is unblemished and his public records are as clean as the springwater oozing from the mountainside.

  • Andres_Bagumbayan

I like the fact that Mar is media-savvy and knows how to reach and capture the youth vote. I would have easily gone for Mar for president had PNoy not decided to run. But after seeing his dismal performance in DOTC, I have serious doubts about him and his character. He not only failed us in Taiwan, but he also failed to defend our consumer rights against Cebu Pacific and inefficiencies of public transportation. If someone fails at his job, we should let him go. Not reward him with an even bigger position with bigger powers. Why should it be different for Mar, just because he’s PNoy’s most favored presidential buddy?

    • Karabkatab

You might as well include the cartel pricing in the cement industry.  Mar never lifted a finger to these greedy cement players, while he was the czar of Trade and Industry in order to protect the consumers.

  • Rizalina Rizal

His main job is not to let the local and PNP officials steal our future and the future of our children.

  • Rand Thor

Yes to Mar Roxas! I’m a fan! He’s very cable and above board, no controversy touching corruption.

Roxas is a weakling. We need somebody who’s got balls to lead the DILG.

    • JK1000

  • Lloyd

alam nyo ky c Mar Roxas ang itinalaga as DILG Sec, at para magpabango ng pangalan in preparation for 2016 Presidential Elections.

  • pidalcopter2

Mar Roxas is the “best choice”. The only people who are bitterest on his appointment are Gloria Arroyo and her ilk, the incorrigibly corrupt people in government, crime syndicates and scammers… and most of all… Escudero and Binay!

    • wakats

I tip my hat to you Pidal. It was chiz who orchestrated at the last minute the NOY-BI movement in 2010.

  • bongbong39

He’s being a Roxas will not carry him to the Presidency, mind you..Jinx si Korina sa kanya..

  • GeorgeR

Roxas has no capacity to govern the DILG….

    • wakats

George, you should at least enumerate some instances that mar was a no-gooder when he was a senator and DOTC secretary – before you unleashed your hearsay allegations.

I”m sure you’re a die-hard fan of binay who was alleged of owning half of makati, a vast farm in batangas and had recently bought a house at the posh San Lorenzo village.

  • Jun Lee

I guess its downhill from here on.

  • tuldok

I can’t wait for Conrado de Quiros’ take on this.  I have this impression that he is no fan of Mar Roxas for reasons I cannot fathom.

I think Mar Roxas will do his best, and you can’t blame NoyNoy for choosing him, as I think he is one of his most trusted cabinet men, and a good friend at that.

Except for Korina (who was in the news years ago about Kasambahay abuse) – I like that choice.

  • tuldok

If the likes of Binay, Erap, Jinggoy, Honasan, Revilla, Magsaysay, Suarez , Villafuerte, the Garcias, and most especially the Marcoses continue to get voted to office by the not-too-discerning electorate – then our hopes for continued political and social transformation would be stunted.

Say No to them in the next elections!

    • Mang_Ambo

Tama po, we should throw out the dirty rags (trapos) so we can start a new era of good governance…

    • Rednaxela VD

  • Rednaxela VD

This will be the downfall of Roxas.  For sure, Binay camp are already preparing to expose the scandals inside the LGUs and PNP at the right time in order to link all of these to Roxas

    • wakats

  • Angelito Santos

subukan natin si roxas before we judge him!

    • wakats

MAR is a member of PHILIPPINE OLIGARCHY and will forever PROTECT one of his kind….. His poor performance at the DTI speaks for itself….

  • yatot

    Labo talaga itong Panot…

at di ako naniniwalang ang mayayaman ay di marunong magnakaw….false….proof? simply look at those CROCS at the senate and congress, most of them are members of the monied oligarchs.

      • Bert

Nope, she failed because she LACKED POLITICAL WILL, she had all the chance to reform the govt but she wasted it….She was also the ORIGINAL of the infamous KKK tag….

      • jElly_aCe

korek ka berto! aside x peping nmn ata ang president non nde c cory hehehe

    • Jpb

  • tuldok

Oftentimes I feel that our collective hope for a better Philippines is being spoiled by the nay-sayers, the perpetual contra, the anti-anti-corrupt, the Aquino haters, the blinded GMA symphatizers  and all the other types of crab-mentalists who present themselves as such with their regular negative comments on any issue or news which, for the real advocates of change would otherwise consider as small, good steps in the right direction.

I strongly believe that our President, despite some flaws, is serious enough to make a dent in our backward society and political culture – notwithstanding his firm resolve to reduce, if not totally eliminate corruption in all branches of government.  I can clearly say that his Cabinet team right now is way better, and more respectable than GMA’s choices during her 9 years in office.  Hands down better.  And if you include the heads of the LGUs and COCCs, there’s not even a comparison.  So please, instead of venting all your biases,  let us give these newly appointed Cabinet secretaries a chance.  Let them do their job and see if they can prove you wrong. Let us be patient.  Let us support them and act as guardians as they perform their jobs.  We can always call for their resignations if they serve only themselves and not the people.

We all have our shares of a wild dream or a fantasy, at one time or another.   So for argument’s sake – haven’t anyone imagined, that if EVERY FILIPINO acts and lives like the late Sec Jesse Robredo – we would be one of the best countries in the world?  Not necessarily economically (although it sure would be one of the ultimate goals) but most importantly, politically, socially, morally and culturally. Oh, wait.. Let me take that back a bit…forget EVERY FILIPINO,  just Every Public Servant… If everybody working in the government can do a Robredo, then We CAN BE GREAT again!.

Which brings me to the reality of the body politik as it stands right now.   Clearly, there are only two sides:  1) The incumbent government team (with all its hopeful followers and guardians) that aims to do good by cleansing the Trapo ways of governance, or 2) the vested interests groups, persons or parties that think only of their own powers and political careers, armed with Big Money (most of it ill-gotten), sweet-talks and false promises to the people.  In the end, it is the fate of the people and the country that is at stake.  Therefore, we can do no less than make the right choices.  It is our paramount duty to do the right way, to vote for the right candidates, to support the good advocacies, to side with the good rather than evil.

Look at the UNA roster.   If you really want to see progress and change in our beloved country, please look at the UNA set of candidates again. And decide which path you want to take.

    Peace to you all….

    • 12JEM

       Si Roxas taga-Capiz..hindi taga-Luzon.

      • Bert

But they own the huge araneta-roxas estate in cubao, right? And that makes him a Luzonian as well…

      • BatangSingapore

NO SINGLE CHANCE….hehehehe

  • Noel Tomboc

good news yung roxas as next DILG chief (sana maging ok ang performance nya…)

but the news being unconfirmed, coming only from “highly placed source” doesn’t sit well. sana yung mga ganitong klaseng news e may official announcement from malacanang. at hndi yung pang blind item ang dating.

  • Aurora

  • ofw2011

roxas is better than binay or lacson

  • Rathbumo

The late Sec. Robredo ay maka MASA, at ang hands-on approach niya sa lahat ng LGUs endeared him to the local executives. Etong si Mar Roxas ELITISTA, suplado, arogante, and HYPOCRITE pa!

  • Jamm3r

“…..But Transportation Secretary Manuel Roxas has accepted the challenge. He is the next DILG secretary, a highly placed source in Malacañang confirmed to the Philippine Daily Inquirer Thursday night…..”

“….. Roxas has not replied to calls on whether he would accept the DILG post if offered by President Aquino….”

ANO BA TOTOO PDI??? accepted or nag-iisip pa kung i-accept.

    • BatangSingapore

    Politics! Pinoy style!

  • fuctore

    PNoy loves Mar

we are reading most of the post as flag as inappropriate…wala na bang matinong post.
pati tong tanong ko….inappropriate pa rin.
      wag na lang kayong magpapost.

  • pepengkabayo

please don’t show “flag as inappropriate, painful to the eyes and sore to read.
    just the flag will do.
it destroys the whole meaning of the post.

    • spearheads

  • Joji

no wonder MARIA led the rescue operation of robredo coz of his interest in the position! well trusted friend of takes to know one! kabaklaan!

  • AprilFool

Sayang. Sen. Ping Lacson would have been a perfect fit for the DILG post considering his no non-sense leadership as evidenced by his accomplishment as Chief PNP. Roxas is the lesser evil.

    • buraot1234

the best yan si lacson pag di nya gusto ang batas pwede nyang takbuhan hahha

    • ray

  • Atagalong

Although as what AprilFool said about Mar Roxas as “ELISTSTA,” he is a good choice over those mentioned as possible replacement of Robredo. The elites are concentrated in Metro Manila, and Roxas being from the island of Panay, is a big step toward the representation of the people outside of Luzon. Besides, he was supposed to run for the presidency but opted out in favor of P-Noy and served well in whatever position the President appointed him to fill in. I hope people will not be carried away by the word “masa” because the party that has the word masa seem concern only of the family of the founder. I fervently hope that Roxas will start clean and in the right direction.

  • pepengkabayo

Roxas is NEW secretary of DILG….

If Roxas is the New secretary of DILG, who is the Old secretary.

    5. Organized Crime especially Drug and Kidnapping

    Local Govt Issue:

Corruption in the LGUs….Business Permits and Other Compliance Problems
    Absentee Mayors and Governors

Needless to mention, the enumeration is not complete. Include capture of high profile Pugantes such as Palparan, Reyes Brothers, Ecleo…etc.

  • ed0408

Mar Roxas is capable as DILG Secretary and has no baggage to speak of. So good luck Mr. Roxas! I believe you can do the job left by Sec. Jesse Robredo. Kaya Natin!!!!!

    • ed0408

Something is wrong with your system. Better have it check by your Sys Admin.

  • Albert Einstien

Good luck Sec. Mar! We’re counting on you.

  • jElly_aCe

Department of Transportation and Communications, dating secretary, wla naman syan nagawa, talamak pa rin ang kurakot sa LTO, MARINA,CAAP at iba pang ahensya sa ilalim ng dating departamento nya,sa DILG pa kaya mas lalo wala siyan pakinabang, proven and tested na wala nagagawa puro lang mga propaganda, di nya kaya tumbasan ang nagawa ni sec. Robredo.

  • jorge cruz

Sec Mar Roxas ,now at the DILG. to aim at the Presidency> on 2016? about 4 to 5 years from now? I hope he did”nt come to much to soon. His performance shall be evaluated by our people from today. The good Secretary must hire the best to enhance his performance., Because of his early appointment
Vice President Binay shall continue to work hard , for it also known that the V.P . like the Secretary is s silent worker. This development is good for the nation there will be competition  on performance. While Sec Mar dwells with the Local Government the V.P. on the Housing and the OFW, where our nation earn billions of dollars and the Local Government spending billions for development. Good Luck to both of you.

  • Charlie
