PNP faces Senate summons over PCSO fund use

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police may be invited soon by the Senate to shed light on how Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office funds they received were used.

Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero, during Monday’s resumption of the Senate blue ribbon committee investigation into the alleged anomalies surrounding PCSO funds, said the PNP should be summoned to answer how they used the funds since the COA reported that there were no documents on this.

PNP chief Raul Bacalzo recently said that the police force was receiving “support funds” from the PCSO.

He said the PNP had six accounts, four of which had been ordered closed last January after being dormant for some time.

Bacalzo also said that they had returned the remaining funds from the two active accounts to the Bureau of National Treasury last January.

The national police received support funds from the PCSO from 1997 to 2008 but none was received in 2009 and 2010, said Bacalzo.
