10 model citizens get Quezon gov’t awards

LUCENA CITY—Two top military officers and an agriculture official were among the 10 recipients of this year’s “Quezon Medalya ng Karangalan” (QMK) award bestowed to model citizens of Quezon province.

The military awardees were Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Jessie Dellosa and Brig. Gen. Nestor Anonuevo.

The eight other awardees were Agriculture Undersecretary Antonio Fleta, Maria Rhodora Fresnedi, Judge Rodoldo Obnamia Jr., George Tapan, Msgr. Ramon Tiama, Renato Maza, Manuel Barcelona Jr. and Buenaventura Luces.

“The award is a manifestation that their hard work to help sustain peace and bring development to various communities in Quezon province is being recognized,” said Maj. Gen. Eduardo del Rosario, commander of the Armed Forces Southern Luzon Command based here in Camp Nakar.

The QMK is an award given by the provincial government to its outstanding citizens for their achievements and contributions to the welfare and development of the province.

The provincial government also bestowed a posthumous citation to Col. Godofredo Magallanes.

The awarding is in line with the 134th birth anniversary of the late President Manuel L. Quezon on Aug. 19. The awarding ceremony was held on Friday at  Quezon Convention Center.

One of the top awardees, Dellosa, is a native of Sorsogon but his family migrated to Quezon when his father, also a soldier, was assigned to the province during his tour of duty.

The list of award recipients shows the different fields of expertise that the awardees are known for and through which they have given honors to the province. Delfin T. Mallari Jr., Inquirer Southern Luzon
