Poster war heats up

By

Even as Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama is still riling over posters making fun of his political slogan, posters making fun of his rival’s ‘Type O’ posters were displayed in conspicuous locations in the city yesterday.

Rama did not like the tarpaulin poster displayed in the barangay Luz Sports Complex when the City Council was having an off-site session last Wednesday which spoofed his “Together we can make things happen.”

He particularly protested the unauthorized use of his and Gov. Gwen Garcia’s photos in the large poster saying “Together nothing happened.”

Last Friday, “Type angry O ko!” tarpaulin posters were seen hanging along Mango Avenue and in barangay Lahug.

The posters are designed like the ‘Type O’ poster of south district Rep. Tomas Osmeña, but the words were changed to “Type Angry O ko”, with the letter ‘O’ designed like the popular computer game Angry Birds.

But Osmeña said the posters doesn’t bother him. He is even uninterested to figure out who are behind these posters.

“That is freedom of speech. This is democracy,” said Osmeña who added that in his 20 years in politics, he got used to receiving  all kinds of insults.

Osmeña said he could only wish that Mayor Michael Rama would not be so onion skinned.

The south district congressman said if Rama reacts to the unauthorized printing of his face in tarpaulins, he should also complain about the unauthorized printing of his face in the newspapers.

Rama on the other hand said the Commission on Election (Comelec) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) should seriously  look into premature campaigning.

“The work of the Comelec does not stop after the election. Even the DILG should come in. DILG should get involved in the affairs of the local government unit. These activities are affecting the functions of the incumbent officials,” Rama complained.
