Green grabs solo lead in Abbariao Cup caging

THE Green Team claimed its third win in as many games after nipping winless Alin Customs Brokerage, 97-96, Thursday night to snare the early lead in the Customs – 3rd Major Alfonso Abbariao Cup-2012 Biggest Loser basketball tournament at the Basak San Nicolas gym.

The undermanned Green roared to a massive, 41-10 run in the opening period but Alin Brokers responded with a, 52-10 rally in the 2nd to erect a commanding 11-point lead, 62-51, at the half.

Green toughened up on defense in the 3rd to grab a 5-point lead, 79-75, going to the final quarter where it settled for the one-point victory courtesy of Noel Medalle’s charity shots.

Medalle and Lester Gabica led Green with 23 and 22 points, respectively while Ryan Villomo and Bryan Barral paced Alin Brokers with 26 and 21 markers, respectively.

Earlier, Kentkyle Cuisine drubbed Blue, 116-101, for its 2nd win in three outings.

Blue took a slim, 25-21 lead in the opening period, but cooled down the rest of the way allowing Kentkyle to post the 15-point win.

Kenneth Maningo led Kentkyle with 31 points on top of five triples while Tata Laborte and Rizan Herbito paced Blue with 25 and 22 points, respectively.
