MANILA, Philippines—Former President, now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, was brought to Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) Thursday night, her spokeswoman said over Radyo Inquirer 990AM.

“She was advised by her doctor to have a complete bed rest,” Elena Bautista-Horn said.

On Thursday, Horn said Mrs. Arroyo’s family had dinner where she choked on melon.

“She suffered a strain in her neck in an effort to let out the melon that choked her,” she said.

Horn said added that Arroyo experienced fatigue after she went back to work at the House of Representatives following her release from VMMC.

Initial investigation showed that Arroyo suffered “acute cervical and lumbar pain.”

Arroyo was under hospital arrest for seven months until the Pasay City Regional Trial Court approved her request for bail.

After her release, Arroyo went to Tagaytay to visit an alternative medicine doctor, went to her father’s grave and then to Pampanga to see her constituents.
