SWU to hold Founder’s Day

The entire Southwestern University community will celebrate its 105th Founder’s Day and Siglakas 2012 from Aug. 8 to 13.

Anchored on the theme “Into the Diamond Year. . . Pioneering and Outdoing,” the celebration will begin with the Search for Ginoo and Binibining Siglakas 2012 at the Aznar Memorial Coliseum in the afternoon of Aug. 8. A parade from the Fuente Osmeña Circle to the Anunciacion Barcenilla Aznar ballpark will kick off with an opening ceremony that will be highlighted by a cheerdance competition.

All individual and team sports will start on Aug. 9.

Academic and literary contests will be held on the third day. Representatives from the different college departments will clash in oration, extemporaneous speaking, spelling bee, solo and duet singing competitions, science and mathematics quizzes. The Amazing Race SWU involves cooking in the afternoon.

The Star Search First Encounter will follow in the evening at the Matias H. Aznar Memorial II grounds. The Student Night 2012 will rock the campus with the battle of the bands and Vaiots 3 sponsored by the Supreme Student Government.

The Faculty and Alumni Day featuring a wellness program will take place early morning of Aug. 11. Survivor SWU will start the outcasting at 9 a.m.

The high school alumni bingo social will roll in the afternoon. The Star Search’s final showdown and the SWU top models gala fashion show will follow in the evening.

The championship games, field demonstration and the dancesports competition are set on Aug. 12. The closing and awarding ceremonies will be at 6 p.m.

The 18th memorial lecture that will highlight the 105th Founder’s Day will be held on Aug. 13. Dr. Nazarita T. Tacandong, a College of Pharmacy alumna, will be the resource speaker. Tacandong, the director general of Food and Drug Administration, will recount the life and contributions of Don Matias H. Aznar II, the founder of SWU. /contributor Caesar Ian H. Bastasa
