Korean: Fellow Korean stole my P800,000

Police arrested last Saturday a Korean national accused by a fellow Korean  of stealing his P800,000.

Kyuseok Han, 32, who’s temporarily residing in White Sand Village in barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City, was arrested when he tried to meet with a female friend.

Han later admitted to police that he lost the P800,000 by gambling in the casino.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group launched an operation against Han after his boss, another Korean, Sanghwa You, 39, reported the theft to police.

You told police that at 3 p.m. last Friday at a casino in Lapu-Lapu City he asked Han to change his chips worth P800,000 to cash.

Han, who is You’s personal assistant, however, didn’t return after he left with the chips. When Han    didn’t answer You’s calls and text messages and later was told by the casino guard that Han already left the establishment, You sought police assistance.

On Saturday morning, a CIDG team tracked down where Han was staying – at a Crown Regency hotel at Fuente Osmena.

The CIDG agents however were delayed from entering Han’s room by the hotel’s security guards.

When they entered his room, he wasn’t there.

Police said they were considering filing charges against the hotel’s guards.

Police decided to ask the help of Han’s female friend, who managed to contact Han and set up a meeting at the Basilica del Sto. Nino de Cebu.

Police arrested Han when he met with his friend.

He also later told police that aside from the P800,000 that he lost he also borrowed P200,000 from a certain Moreno which he too lost at the casino.

Yesterday, You filed a complaint of qualified theft at the Lapu-Lapu City Prosecutor’s Office.

Han was detained at the Lapu-Lapu police station pending the filing of charges.

Police, however, said that Han’s parents from South Korea promised to pay the money that their son took./Correspondent Chito O. Aragon
