Over 100 students of Ateneo de Davao downed by spoiled chicken adobo

DAVAO CITY, Philippines—More than 100 students from the Ateneo de Davao University were rushed to various hospitals here after manifesting symptoms of food poisoning during a student assembly on Sunday.
Witnesses said that the students started to complain about feeling dizzy and vomited some two hours after eating lunch.
As of 7:30 p.m., 111 students were reported to be admitted in various hospitals in the city.
Student council president Maureen Villamor, who was among those brought to a hospital, narrated that she felt nauseated after she ate the chicken adobo served by the caterer.
Villamor said she and other students noticed that the chicken adobo tasted spoiled.
“An investigation must be immediately conducted to verify the real cause of the food poisoning,” a student, who has also shown symptoms after eating the food in the assembly, said.
The student also asked the school administration to provide financial assistance to the victims.
Atenews, the official student publication in ADDU, reported that 64 were admitted into the Davao Doctor Hospital, 43 in San Pedro Hospital and four in Davao Medical School Foundation.
Many students have also manifested symptoms but opted to stay at home, the publication said.
Witnesses are pointing at the chicken adobo served by the caterer hired by the organizers.
The student assembly had more than 300 participants, including the university president.
