Dads to help ex-convicts to be barbers

THE Cebu City government wants to give former convicts a chance to earn as barbers when they return to mainstream society.

Cebu City Councilor Michael Rallota said the former convicts would be given livelihood trainings.

“We are putting some of them into training where they could learn how to cut hair and become professional barbers,” Rallota said.

During the training, the ex-convicts will be supplied with barber kits, which they can keep after they will graduate.

“We are making them learn to earn and be accepted back to the society,” he said.

With this development, Councilors Rallota and Augustus Pe Jr. sponsored a resolution asking Cebu City Jail Warden Victoria Jimenez to give the Association of Barangay Councils a copy of monthly list of newly released prisoners and former convicts from the city jail.

The City Council approved the resolution.

“The purpose is mainly for close monitoring of the officials on their activities and for the relay of whatever project that is bound for them,” Rallota said.

He also said that the list would be useful to the barangays to easily track repeat offenders. /Correspondent Edison A. Delos Angeles
