2 killed, 1 wounded by gunman in front of Quezon City store

By

MANILA, Philippines—Two persons, including a teenager, were killed while another was wounded when a lone gunman shot them while they were hanging out at a corner store before noon Saturday in Quezon City.

The gun-wielding man allegedly chased 16-year-old Dan Paul Pecson, of Morning Star Street in Barangay (village) Payatas, inside a house along Sto. Niño Street in Barangay Payatas-A to ensure the kill.

Pecson died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds in the body while his companion, 32-year-old Jose Remigio Reyes, of Sto. Nino Street, died while undergoing treatment at the Far Eastern University (FEU) Medical Center from a lone bullet wound in the back.

Reyes’ neighbor Ryan Militante, 27, was hit by a stray bullet in the right arm and was taken to the East Avenue Medical Center for treatment.

Police Officer 3 Jogene Hernandez, of the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (QCPD-CIDU), said the incident happened around 11 a.m. Saturday, along Sto. Nino Street in Barangay Payatas-A while Pecson and Reyes were standing in front of a mini-store.

Hernandez said that a man approached the two and, brandishing a handgun, started firing at them. Reyes was immediately hit but Pecson was able to run, though wounded, and tried to hide inside a nearby house owned by Romualdo Natividad. One of the bullets let loose by the gunman hit Militante, who was buying cigarettes from another nearby store.

The gunman tracked Pecson down at his hiding place and fired two more shots at him. The suspect then fled aboard a motorcycle driven by a cohort after making sure he had killed the teenager.

Hernandez said the motive behind the killing remained undetermined as of Sunday.
