Campaign on for Banawa-Englis plebiscite

BARANGAY officials in Guadalupe and Labangon are now busy campaigning for the plebiscite whether barangay Banawa-Englis is to be created or not.

In barangay Labangon, barangay captain Victor Buendia is campaigning for the “no” vote, claiming that his barangay will lose around P5 million annual income if the new barangay is created.

The plebiscite for the creation of the new barangay will be on Saturday, July 28.

Buendia also claimed that the barangay may also lose 5 hectares of land to the new barangay because of unclear boundaries.

Guadalupe councilor Wilfredo Gallardo, meanwhile, said that if ever the split wins, it will affect barangay Guadalupe’s annual income of about P17 million per year.

The Guadalupe barangay council however earlier said they will respect the “mandate of the people,” if ever the Yes votes prevail.

“We have to campaign for residents to vote as most residents living in subdivisions in the upland areas don’t usually vote,” said Irene Gallardo-Camarista, Guadalupe Lupong Tagapamayapa coordinator. /Correspondent Tweeny M. Malinao and Jhunnex Napallacan
