Woman nabbed for estafa
Cebu Daily NewsA WOMAN from Mandaue City allegedly involved in swindling activities was arrested by police in an entrapment operation last Monday night.
Charges of estafa were filed yesterday against Jessielyn Fernando, who was arrested by members of the Criminal Investigation Detection Group based on the complaint of 73-year-old Socorro Rigor.
Rigor said that sometime this year, Fernando offered to buy her two parcels of lot worth P10 million.
Rigor said Fernando later suggested to mortgage his land to her friend for P5 million. Fernando identified his friend as Eugene Caballero, reportedly a mayor in Zamboanga.
Rigor said he turned over the land titles to Fernando. Days passed but Fernando did not give him the proceeds of the mortgaged properties.
Rigor said he later learned that his properties were mortgaged for P5.8 million with a six percent monthly interest. Rigor said it was last Monday night when Fernando demanded P300,000 as proceeds of the interest from Rigor before he could get the land titles.
The CIDG-7 set up an entrapment operation that led to Fernando’s arrest. Police said Monica Chan, 42, a resident of barangay Kalunasan also complained that she lost P4 million to Fernando who asked for the amount as “show money” of their business./CHITO O. ARAGON
