Mandaue PWDs to get P1,000 from city govt
PERSONS with disabilities in Mandaue City will enjoy 100 percent increase in the cash assistance from City Hall.
City Councilor Jefferson Ceniza, chairman on the Committee on Social Services announced that they will increase the annual cash assistance of PWDs from P500 to P1,000.
Ceniza pointed out that this is in recognition of the great potential of persons with disabilities (PWD) in helping build the nation.
He said they have hired PWDs in the city, particularly at the City Social Welfare Services.
He said they consider PWDs as partners and extended to them services like assigning them to an office, a service vehicle and discount at the city hospital, among others.
Meanwhile, the Mandaue City-based Julies chain of bakeries announced that they will open opportunities for PWDs to work in their bakeshops in the city.
Marie Ann Jessica Cabana, area manager for Visayas of Julie’s Bakeshop Franchise said they will give the PWDs specifically in Mandaue first priority in hiring personnel for their bakeshop in the city.
Meanwhile, Michael Pielago, president of 2,000 strong Federation for the Welfare of PWDs in Mandaue City welcomed this development.
Pielago also called for the full implementation of Republic Act 7772 as amended or the “Magna Carta for Disabled Persons.”
Pielago said they have lined up several activities in celebration of the national disability and prevention month like a sports fest. /Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
