SUV plows 4 taxis; cabbie hurt

A TAXI driver was injured after a sports utility vehicle (SUV) rammed four taxicabs parked at the side of the road in Mandaue City.

Henry Mariscal, 45, driver of M and J taxi, sustained broken bones in the feet.

Police said the driver of the Toyata Prado with plate number GXK-396,  Reynaldo Lucido, 39, tested positive for alcohol use at the Mandaue City Hospital where he was brought after the accident.

SPO3 Apolinario Neis, traffic investigator of the Mandaue City police, said that according to witnesses, the SUV was running at high speed on Highway Seno when it swerved to the right side of the road and rammed four taxis at 2:50 a.m. yesterday.

Police said the SUV first hit a taxi driven by Epifanio Artaso. Artaso taxi was pushed toward another taxi driven by Mariscal.

The SUV continued to move until it hit two more taxis driven by Nelson Desphy and Vedasto Lagaylay.

Police said the taxi s were  parked  by the road while waiting for passengers.

Lucido, who was detained at the Casuntingan police station, is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to properties and serious physical injury, said police./CORRESPONDENTs FE MARIE D. DUMABOC AND NORMAN V. MENDOZA
